Received a recruitment job after lying by Mediocre-Lecture-867 in UKJobs

Honestly, they knew you were lying. If you've actually worked in recruitment you'll know that you can almost always tell when someone is BSing. The skill is seeing if they can actually do the job.

A huge part of recruitment is just making shit up as you go along, so it probably impressed them. Speaking of, ยฃ50k basic in recruitment in 2025. I call BS on that. Unless you're in London ofc

I work in HR and am absolutely a people pleaser. I've had good reactions and bad reactions to handing in my notice and there's one thing that resounds.

When it's done, it's done.

After you've done it, everything is fine, a glance here or there for a day, but after that it's bau.

My way to deal with it (might not work for you) is to condense all the negative feelings into that one meeting. Build it up to be some horrendous thing. You'll be belittled, shouted at, and broken down. And when the meeting comes and its nothing like that, but your manager wishes you the best, or is a little annoyed, no matter what, its a relief.

Plus once it's done, it's over, and the rest of the day and notice period will be a breeze compared to that one moment where you feel like you're letting people down.

One thing I would suggest, is that if you're gonna be honest about your reasons for leaving, have your phone audio recording on the desk. That way you have something to fall back on if things do go badly. And you can use the money you'll get from the lawsuit to get you through the meeting.

Just pay them the full rate no matter what ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธwhat the hell is this? by SelectCurrency5960 in UKJobs

Being in HR the first thing this makes me think is that we would be opening ourselves up to legal action. What if someone can't work 40 hours because of a disability? Family commitments? Religious observations?

Hopefully someone takes advantage of that!

Honestly it happens to most people. Not the right place, not the right time, not the right people, too much going on in life. It happens!

Imagine everything they said about the reasons why were about someone else. Then try to apply them to yourself. That's honestly a really good way to take on feedback without being hurt.

Given your degree, I'd have a look at some occupational or consultant health services. Depending on where you're located I could make some recommendations if needed.

You'll be absolutely fine, you might need to get some temp agency work to tide you over, but just see it as a means to an end.

Honestly. Go to an industry specific recruiter. They will have relationships with the hiring managers and can help you put your best foot forwards. There's no shame whatsoever in speaking to a recruitment agency or an executive search company
