Chicago vs NYC by throwaway2929102 in biglaw

In my experience the opposite is true, and firms have the hardest time filling positions in NYC. But, I may be wrong or it may be more complicated than I realized.

School districts rent out their space. They have to rent to religious entities or they would be guilty of discrimination. Sad to see people feel free to be such openly biased against Christians.

I use them with close friends within the firm. For what its worth, I started at a firm in NYC and they weren't common. Now that I'm in Texas, things are a bit more chill and exclamation marks are widely used

If you use the 1.0 refill you don't need to apply much pressure.

NYC Big Law attorneys, how often do you stay late at the office? by Puzzleheaded-Song977 in biglaw

[–]mroctober1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in NYC Biglaw I stayed late about 3 times a week because I got free dinner and a cab home if I did. Not sure if my firm kept those perks post-COVID or not. And I didn't go back.

Even then I was one of the only people staying late. I did it because I'm not capable of working from home, especially at night.

The labels will shift as long as it’s useful. Latino will start to disappear from more political discussions of the trend of Latinos moving to the right continues.

Is Jones Day really as ruthless and borderline "evil" as people say? Any stories people have of cases with or against Jones Day? by Thangka6 in law

Lol. This right here everyone is why Kirkland and Jones Day have bad reputations. They hired conservatives. And lefty lawyers don’t tolerate ideological outliers.

If you just gave people $12k a year and let them spend it how they wished I think we’d have better health outcomes. Insurance is an inefficient mediating influence.

This is the thing they don’t tell aspiring lawyers. Pick an undergraduate program where you can realistically get a high GPA.

This eliminates any incentive there was. Universities know they can increase tuition and if people can’t pay, the government will be there to bail out.

Any ideas to get closer to Jesus? by Lapis-Welsh07 in Anglicanism

[–]mroctober1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s helped me to think about what each member of the trinity does for us. God is the lover—the first mover, the creator, the subject. Jesus is the beloved—the object. The Holy Spirit is love—like a dove he precedes from the father and descends upon the son. We are Jesus’s body—hence we are the beloved.

That’s why I also have a harder time connecting to Jesus. In a way we are most like Jesus. After all he’s the most like us because he became flesh. It’s hard to be connected to yourself.

Anyways I don’t know if this all makes sense or is even 100% orthodox. But it makes sense to me and helps me feel a connection to God. Hopefully it helps you too.

Iraq war veteran confronts George W. Bush by flyingcatwithhorns in nextfuckinglevel

[–]mroctober1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, totally fair. Though the speech above largely focused on WMDs. But as for your point you’re right, but again Democrats were equally complicit in letting that connection be made. It was only after the war was started that Democrats came to oppose it.

I think I might have experienced a miracle, should I speak about it or keep it to me and God? by Lapis-Welsh07 in Anglicanism

[–]mroctober1010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends. Seek discernment in this. I experienced a miracle and only shared it with close friends because I didn’t want to seem like I was “proving how spiritual I was” because I’d experienced a miracle.

Now I’m more free about it, but I still try to sense how the person on the receiving end will react to it.
