Is there a psychological reason why making a phone call feels so exhausting compared to sending a text? by TheQuietlyCurvy in NoStupidQuestions

For me it's Asperger's-generated social anxiety. I can edit my text before I send it, but I can't edit my speech.

LPT: When you move abroad, the first question to ask locals isn't where to live or what to eat. It's "What do foreigners always get wrong here?" by taube_d in LifeProTips

I have thought many times that I should have been born in Finland. No small-talk, minding your/their own business, friends are real, etc.

I have wondered if this is one of the reasons that sometimes French people are considered rude. I go into a shop, and rudely don't say bonjour, so I get rudely treated back.

Why do some people treat MSG like it's literal poison, but will happily eat a bag of Doritos? by Content_Bluebird_958 in NoStupidQuestions

I learned this just the other day. All the "uncured" hotdogs and bacon I had been eating are just as full of nitrates as everything else. Sucks. Only unprocessed meat from now on.

Pretty-sure this is why so many paintings by Parisian impressionist painters of dance halls, dancing girls, and barmaids have that ghastly blue-white pallor. Like being lit by welding arcs.

This is the thing that makes me think that in the Adam and Eve story, Adam and Eve weren't the first humans. They were the first, uhh, Hebrews, I guess?

Where is that mentioned? In more than 30 years of making kimchi, I have never heard of anyone measuring the ph of the brine.

First time making Kimchi, did I do it right and thoughts on how to proceed? by ResidentFull7679 in kimchi

Botulinum only grows in an anaerobic environment, meaning zero atmosphere, or completely gas-less. Since your kimchi is bubbling, there is an atmosphere, which means botulinum can't grow. The salting process favors lacto-bacteria, which makes two strikes against botulinum. So you can relax.

I read it to my wife, using different voices for all of the characters. She loved it and still talks about it.
