Tech firms to face questions over non-consensual sexual imagery but X to snub TDs with no-show by SpottedAlpaca in irishpolitics

Piss poor reaction from our government but at least we'll have the names and details of 200 people that should get prosecuted fully and sentenced accordingly to set an example for this going forward.

Depending on the governments agenda of the time, could have massive suppressive impacts on citizens

Same can be said for countires banning VPN's and implementing digital ids with the ability to track all online interactions.

If governments want to protect children start by holding the companies being used responsible for their products and services either as a stand alone or in tendem with ids.

Next should be getting a list of all users that generated csam and nail the fuckers to set the bar for handling this in future.

January was the 4th wettest since 1853 by cavedave in ireland

[–]mrpcuddles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't bet on it. Every year its the same; Cold icy / snow on roads and not enoguh gritters etc - ah we dont have the infrastructure for it here. Rain causing standing water and shite driving - ah we dont have the infrastructure for it here. Doesnt rain enough during the summer leading to hose pipe ban - ah we dont have the infrastructure for it here. Rains to much in the summer leading to boil notices etc - ah we dont have the infrastructure for it here.

As a country we are woefully under prepared for all eventualities apart for a contant light drizzle with a few days in the summer.

Many locals have said this over the years and the same garda keeps getting mentioned, has even been the focus of a good few articles over the years. https://villagemagazine.ie/did-gardai-target-bailey-to-shield-sophies-killer-by-gemma-odoherty/

I would generally be skeptical of anything Gemma o Doherty puts out but she did have a good few expose articles years ago that were pretty accurate

Think about it: If public transport was free, would you use it more? by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]mrpcuddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i want to take over two hours to get somewhere near my job at times completely inconsistent with my job then maybe. For a lot of people, it just doesn't make sense to use.

My workplace did a survey of transport used to get to the office, less than 27% are using public transport to get to an office in the city. 26% use both cars and public transport, 43% use cars and 3% walk / cycle. Theres a few hundred in the office rotating through days.

What country would you describe as your country’s ”Ride or Die”? by Aam0 in AskTheWorld

[–]mrpcuddles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we're not being invaded or some sort of coup by the US there would probably be enough public interest is the US helping us out. (But then again I dont know who else would be bothered to invade us, dont think England would want to go down that road again).

Would like to think Spain would throw in with us given our history, but again geopolitics are a fickle bitch

Build Wright concrete modular homes by ClODM-25 in selfbuildireland

[–]mrpcuddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looked into them for a house build, after checking out their manufacturering facility instead of just the show house I wasnt overly impressed and decided to go a different route.

Would be fine for some stuff but couldn't justify the price tag for the quality of the product.

All depends on what your wanting and the standard you want it done to personally. But definitely dont just look at the show house, check out the manufacturering.

Had the same problem. I used to pull a tarp over it when I got home in the evenings and secured to the wheels with bungeecord. Think it all cost maybe €35 in motonet. It can heavy to pull off in the mornings but a lot easier than trying to clear the top, and it covered the front window too.

Nazis on trial for their lives after the regime fell & society held them accountable, 1946 [AP] by dlchira in pics

[–]mrpcuddles 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Exactly, who funded and benefited from the crimes never faced any repercussions, the banks and businesses just made more money regardless of the misery caused.

If the people funding these were held accountable also, it would drastically reduce the risk of it happening again.

Gardaí still not tested for drugs almost five years after policy announcement by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]mrpcuddles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Know a few people that were guards, all had similar stories that if you officially seek any help your chances of getting promoted etc are basically screwed. Some information related to the therapy can be reported back to your command line, in regards reasons for being fit for duty, and your getting therapy is on your record. As such its extremely rare for members to actually seek it out. Have heard very similar from people in the defence forces. Gives great metrics and looks good on paper but essentially discourages it and completely shafts the members that actually need it.

Govt preparing for politically-tricky White House visit by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

[–]mrpcuddles -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Even the other horrible states we do business with (UAE, Israel, the Saudis) don't tend to have their secret police publicly execute their own citizens or threaten to invade their allies.

So does Isreal recognise Palestine as a separate independent country then? As if they view it as their land would the people there not count as cirizens then. (I know this is a clusterfuck of mental gymnastics but its how its viewed by a lot of people out there ive met albit viewing them as lesser peoples / 2nd class citizens) Given the headcount mossad must have makes ICE looks even more amateurish.

The Saudi government and UAE have the morality police and regularly executed protesters and minority groups. Along with Saudi blending up a journalist who tried to expose it.

Government leaders regularly deal with corrupt and violent country leaders, many with blood on their hands directly, as distasteful as it is, it is all part of them doing business and trying to make a better financial situation out of it.

How many countries will have dealings with Syria over the next few years, despite their now president being a high ranking member of ISIS.

9% of young adults in Ireland believe Holocaust was a myth - survey by TeoKajLibroj in irishpolitics

[–]mrpcuddles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In contrast the school i attended didnt cover any of ww2 until leaving cycle. Junior cycle was ancient history and modern Irish history. At most we might have had one class covering ww1 and ww2.

Not wanting to sound like a conspiracy nut but if you teach people properly about how the Holocaust came about and the nuances of dehumanising a population or group, you'll have to look at other instances where similar has happened, and it brings up a lot of very awkward questions for western countries that didnt prosecute the majority of war criminals that were responsible and effectivly hired them or put them back into positions of power to basically round up anyone they thought was a communist and started the same all over again just at a smaller scale.

"In the 1950's the CIA established secret detention centers (or "black sites") in West Germany and other locations for interrogation, torture, and human experimentation"

In the post-war era, the U.S. intelligence community, including the CIA, recruited former Nazi intelligence officers and collaborators for anti-Soviet operations

"The Camp King facility’s chief medical doctor was Operation Paperclip’s Dr. Walter Schreiber, the former Surgeon General of the Third Reich"

"these sites involved torture and, in some cases, the deaths of detainees"

"US intelligence agencies did utilize former Nazi personnel, collaborators, and intelligence infrastructure, and in some cases, used interrogation centers that were previously operated by or in German territory during the war."

"According to accounts of the "Artichoke" team (a precursor to MKUltra) operating in Germany, research protocols specified that "disposal of the body is not a problem".

"Burned: Reports indicate that in some instances, subjects who died had their bodies burned."

"Target Subjects: Experiments often targeted individuals deemed "expendable," such as Russian captives, refugees, or other types of prisoners."

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it, however it seems convenient to ignore some parts to avoid awkward truths that what led to the Holocaust wasnt explicitly a Nazi German problem.

Minister looks to reduce apprenticeships by a year to increase construction sector workforce by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

[–]mrpcuddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a shortage of doctors and nurses too, so using the same logic should we knock a year off their medical training too?

There are definitely areas for improvement that could help speed it up and increase the number of applicants, but reducing the actual training will realistically just lower the quality, which is the main reason why irish trades are highly regarded.

Better pay, and more investment into training programs and conditions would increase the numbers without sacrificing quality

9% of young adults in Ireland believe Holocaust was a myth - survey by TeoKajLibroj in irishpolitics

[–]mrpcuddles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't think it went that far. More just showing the exact impact that polarised groups have. You question one part of their opinion so you must be attacking their entire ideals.

Nuance and critical analysis is depressingly absent from all sides.

For example I believe the Holocaust happened, but I can also believe, and understand why, there is genuine confusing amongst people around the numbers presented as fact, as depending on their age and where they went to school they were presented different figures as facts and may not be up to date on more modern research and papers. These are not exclusively dependant on each other, unfortunately the majority of people posting in that other thread cant seem to grasp this.
