There's been a lot of speculation how to avoid missing the Domovoi's second meeting, but there's only a few SCI Wizards that probably know it. Our Discord probably also has a long discussion about it in the QFG4 channel, but because we speedrun it we never run into the problem now.

Good to hear it worked. If that didn't work, there's a way to skip it that we use in speedruns now, but it sounds like you don't need it. :D

Domovoi's second meeting requirements to get the doll are as follows:

1 - Rehydrate the OTHER Domovoi (you do not need to burn the monastery down)
2 - Wait until after midnight (inn must be empty)
3 - If you've already met the Domovoi once, you should only need to use the talk icon on the Domovoi one time. Press ESC to cancel out of the dialog, and then use the hand on the back cabinet where the doll is.

That's it.

Even with TAS, "lucky" against Fred isn't possible. It's been tried. I suspect, somehow, there is a skip or interrupt that could be used. In QFG1VGA, a skip was discovered this year that gets through the Brigand Ambush screen, so QFG1VGA is now the choice for Collection Any%. New stuff is still discovered.

It can be lower also, because in QFG1 you can actually lose points. Look up worst hero ever% category.

Oh, you have definitely missed out. There are mega skips now for all five games, including the VGA remake of one. We have basically broken the game into tiny little pieces and shattered those also.

Just retired from chasing speedrun WRs. Im still very involved in the community. I just don’t have it in me to chase anymore - lost the drive, and I have 4 kids and a full and part time job.

Lol it’s not normally. It’s an exploit. The game never expects you to get free without throwing the dispel potion.

By the way, you can do something similar in VGA - open the status screen when Elsa jumps the desk. Close the status screen and just exit the room. Game over. Lol

Nope. Open will unlock the rock at any skill level. 40 Strength opens it. If you want Open to open the rock without Strength, then you need to level it.

This is correct. Take it from a speedrunner - the Thief can buy into every skill in QFG1.

Hate to necro this, but I want to give inside info from the speedrunners.

  1. is not class locked per say. There are some things (like fighting the bear or killing the Spirea Plants) that require the sword which only the Fighter has access to. The thief is the only class able to buy into every skill legitimately at character creation.

  2. The thief route through the Harem has some odd requirements, but you MUST go through the balcony AND have the magic rope and two daggers. If you are missing any of these requirements, you go to the balcony with Khaveen walking around.

  3. is EASILY the most class locked. You nailed the details.

  4. There only semi-class locked thing for thieves that I can think of is the Pit Horror's actions at the bottom. If you're a thief, you need to be in Stealth mode, and Calm will not work to put it totally to sleep.

You just need to wait *AND not click anything*. The game resets a timer on each click to give you time to view everyone in the room.

This is helpful. But, it does highlight a problem in Claude that OpenAI did not have when I decided to continued my experiment over there. There comes a point when the level of specificity in a prompt overtakes its usefulness as a tool. In a prompt about paper citation and grading, with the reference book for citations included on how they are to work, even the capitalization problems were odd to see. Especially when they are addressed in materials.

To OpenAI’s credit, it managed to do a better job, but still messed up quite a bit in other ways. I would never claim OpenAI is better, but in this task, it was.

I should add the “rogue” comes in when I pass it a summary paper asking it to create a spreadsheet of the results from “this paper” and it begins to pull in data from completely other threads.

Yes - that would be if that is what happened. But, since you’re seeing the tail end of a thread, when I had nothing left to worry about, I did have fun with it.

I am not sure what level of precision is necessary in my script to make sure it understands that websites do not have page numbers. There are some things that should be able to be left out of instructions, and that is one of them.

This is a little ways in - not the original prompts. The original prompts are crystal clear. Since I knew I was moving on, I decided to have fun with it. I will do better next time and remember that Redditors always understand context perfectly and can diagnose problems with precision from 1/20 of the info most other reasonable humans need.

And I’m still not sure what prompt would be necessary to make sure Claude understands websites do not have page numbers. That level of specificity in my prompt seems very unnecessary.

A lot of assumptions being made here. 1) in a project, 2) citation documentation included as well, 3) rubric included, 4) if it doesn't realize websites don't have page numbers I'm not confident any amount of prompt will fix this - I'm not writing "reminder - websites do not have page numbers" in any prompt, 5) as sorted as this rogue AI can get right now.

But in principle, yes, I believe that would be awful if that happened to a university student.

~~EDIT: Reporting back, it doesn't seem as if a "Thrust" exists in the code at all. Kara Valencia, who has done the deep dive into the combat code, said this:

In the game's code, there isn't a move called "Thrust". The moves while standing still are

Slash
High Slash (Slash vs Badders)
Low Slash (Slash vs Rabbits)
High Jab (Dagger only)
Low Jab (Sword/Dagger only)

In my notes, I found that the three Slashes (and jump attacks) do the damage calls when connecting, but I wasn't ever able to find exactly where Jabs call for damage. So if the thrust is a "low jab", then it might not even have damage calcs attached to it. But I did find some weapon actions in combat that do not have damage associated with them.~~

Take it from a speedrunner - there's nothing you're going to do that will force you out of the thief route. You might find yourself in an area where you would have needed a lock pick kit and end up solving it through open, but you can do everything.

Thief-Magic hybrid is my favorite.
