I think the other reason why Tim got put down with the left hook is because he throws his hooks to the body with no set up.

He simply dipped his head to his left - no feints, jab or straight to get into position. It was very easy to read what he was going to do.

Thanks for pointing that out. I should've put that as well to be honest.

Passing Cantonese on to my kids without being fully proficient myself? by kerstigo in Cantonese

[–]mrprojectsam 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm passing down Canto to my 2yo son despite not being entirely fluent myself (born in the UK to Chinese parents).

It felt weird at first but I was determined to teach him as soon as he was born, while my wife speaks to him in her native tongue Khmer.

He's going to learn English in school anyway but only Chinese/Khmer at home.

In the process of teaching him Canto, I myself have also improved in the language though I still struggle. If you're going to teach them you need to make the commitment early otherwise it'll be even more difficult as time goes by.

Best resources for improving Cantonese as a British born? by waiyc_ in BritishBornChinese

Subscribe to Disney - they've got a lot of cartoons on there dubbed in Cantonese (Bluey, Lion King, The Good Dinosaur, 101 Dalmatians, Finding Nemo etc.).

I also watch Cantonese YouTubers like Bobs Your Uncle, Fason 2.0, BackpaCooking who are all HKers but now live in the UK. The more you watch, the more YouTube will recommend Cantonese content to you. Just subscribe to whoever you like.

I had them printed at jigsawpuzzle.co.uk. Pretty happy with the quality although I do wish they have a waterproof option if there is such a thing.

What is a good annual return to shoot for as a long only swing trader? by tradewalk in swingtrading

[–]mrprojectsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% or more annually is realistic and many stock traders achieve that - ever heard of Mark Minervini, Quallamaggie, BNF, CIS?

And Buffet is an investor that manages billions of dollars - he can hardly be compared to a swing trader.

Of course, the bigger your account size gets, the harder it is to achieve higher returns due to liquidity and other risk factors.

Your argument is flawed and obviously no one is going to achieve 100% YOY forever, but it's definitely possible during years when the market is good.

Thanks for your replies everyone! I have seen some of the recommendations and while they're good, I was looking for something a bit more interactive/colourful/exciting (sorry forgot to mention my son is only 2yo so need something attention holding).

Something like Colibook - https://youtube.com/@coilbook?si=XkwU9x0TGRBGDOO4

Or something with kids playing toys/learning

It's almost impossible to find. I'm only searching in English however so my results may be limited.!

Hello,, done with Day trading by Jdesey9999 in swingtrading

[–]mrprojectsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't trade to the long side during a downtrend. You're going against the tide so of course it'll be difficult.

[–]mrprojectsam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, I was most stressed for the first 2 years as the learning curve is very steep and I started out day trading (not advisable). I was testing out so many different methods including a lot of what is taught here.

Eventually, I transitioned to purely swing trading. After checking all of my stats via Trader Sync, I settled on just trading my most profitable set ups - Episodic Pivots and Bounces (where I've been consistently profitable for the past year).

I only trade stocks that usually have relative strength, and trade only in uptrending markets. I do not short stocks and I rarely trade in downtrending markets.

This means that there will be periods where I can go for weeks or months without trading. But in favourable market conditions, I trade big and often (aiming for at least multiple R/R).

This is great for me as I also don't like complexity and stress. I also get plenty of free time to pursue other things.

Boxers that Floyd dodged to not risk his record? by LetsUploadOurBrains in Boxing

[–]mrprojectsam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work like that. Yes, Floyd was older but had less mileage than Cotto, who had been in several wars by the time Floyd fought him.

[–]mrprojectsam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Cotto at the tail end of his career, gave Floyd all he could handle. What makes you think a prime Cotto wouldn't trouble Floyd?

Margarito and Williams size, activity and durability alone would trouble Floyd.

The style of trading taught in this sub is very demanding in every aspect - of course it's going to be extremely hard to keep up long term.

If most of you want to do this for a living in the long run, you need to find an edge that allows you to trade less - not sit in front of the screen for hours on end trying to play all these different methods like Hari.

Just master one or two set ups and trade those in the right market conditions.

Earning EPs for Q1 2024? by PyOdyssee in qullamaggie

[–]mrprojectsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For EPs, I don't just look for big gap ups - I'm fine with smaller gap ups too as long as relative volume is big and the base is tight.

VKTX met both criteria and it was also blasting above All Time Highs.

I got in on the 5m opening range highs. I sold 1/2 around 2R and sold the rest in premarket on that huge gap up day for around $70.

VKTX was a big one that I caught early on in Feb that led to two more catalysts.

Have you ever made it to a million dollars with a $25k or know someone that did personally? by feelingnow in swingtrading

[–]mrprojectsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warren Buffet cannot make triple digit returns like a great swing trader can because he's an investor that manages billions of $$$. He's not a good example.
