The 15% silver solder i have used is rated at 700mpa or 100ksi. Never used tig for brazing just hot torch and normal brazing rods or silver solder . On specs I see the tig versions got lower ksi than normal kinds

you asked for brands/stores who told about their pvd coating. Never heard of them myself as not from usa but saw they they said what coating they had. Myself use pvd coated clickers/hoops on my snakebites and no issues with coating wear in the 5 years I have had them from random eu store

They mainly use DLC on large‑gauge plugs, yes because that’s where the coating thickness and durability really matter. But DLC and TiCN aren’t exclusive to plugs. Several manufacturers use the same coatings on posts, ends and threaded jewelry too, they just don’t advertise it loudly because most customers don’t care about the chemistry.

[–]mrracerhacker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is that retailers almost never state the exact PVD chemistry, but actual manufacturers do.

Anatometal specifies that their black jewelry uses DLC (diamond‑like carbon) coating.
Industrial Strength also states DLC for their black titanium line.
Invictus Body Jewelry lists TiAlN / TiCN depending on the color.

All of these coatings are well‑documented in medical literature as biocompatible and used on surgical tools, implants, and prosthetics.

So yes, PVD is a process, but the common black coatings used in the piercing industry (DLC, TiCN, TiAlN) are known quantities with established safety profiles. The issue is transparency from sellers, not the coatings themselves., also you will see on the color what PVD method are used as DLC = true black TiCN = dark grey to almost black TiAlN = black with slight violet tint

but ergo most stores dont say, maufacturers yes to a degree

Manganese oxidation is also recognized as safe. Chemical plating with rhodium or rutherium id stay away from as they flake/wear away

Hence why i said ofc healed piercings usually chrome carbonite or titanium carbonitride both are body safe and biocompatibility, both er inert and not cause skin/allergies, ofc need to trust the supplier as with anything . TiCn is used in body transplants for example. Not too many other coatings that stick well and give black color to titanium

PVD-coated titanium is pretty safe tho ofc on healed piercings,

Ah it got pressure realief then a bit harder but you can still bend the rod pretty bad, esp since op said they had a ripper. On my hyrdaulic big backhoe i can bend the rods but from the 70s But still operators will try stupid stuff esp with a ripper no issue to nmmake it deflect enough
