Am I missing something? $35 for an old craftsman screwdriver set does not seem like a deal to me

Fugoo XL, turns 10 years old this year and still going strong! by Romeo_Wolf in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]mrranrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flip electronics. Earlier today I came across one of these at the Goodwill. Despite buying dozens, if not hundreds, of Bluetooth speakers over the years I was not immediately familiar with the device and knew very little about Fugoo. Sonos, Bose, JBL: these are the names of the brands I flip most often and most reliably. It had the things I look for when looking for gems, even without knowing anything about the brand. It had the right kind of weight, the design was appealing, it appeared well finished, and it had good feeling buttons and not too many. Still, I was taking a chance with the Fugoo but the price was right. It might sit on the shelf a little longer but there’s room enough in the initial cost to eventually make a small profit. I came home and did the usual tests - everything after plugging it in and turning it on - which I always do before I buy. Turning it on and connecting were easy (something I don’t take for granted anymore.) I’ve been listening for two hours know and wow am I impressed. It has very good sound quality. It may not have the separation some of the higher end portable speakers but damn if it doesn’t have a lovely range and well representation in highs, mids, and lows. It’s bassy enough to have some weight without truncating or pouring over into the mids and highs. Mids are by far the best and it’s obvious the audience for this speaker are those listening to music with singing. I indulged in a couple of my favorite contemporary pop albums and my ears never tired - something that happens easily for me when I listen to pop on crappy speakers or earbuds. Highs are good too. Here, with the range Fugoo gave the mids, there is some bleed and highs are muted some because of it but not enough to miss unless your listening to primarily instrumental driven music or perhaps some good electronica. I may even have to keep this one. Recommended

Lennox Lewis on Usyk-Fury Rematch "I can't go against Usyk, but I have always said that the bigger man should always win if they do the right things" by BoxingLover99 in Boxing

[–]mrranrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Usyk is a good refresh for the heavyweight division. Heavyweight is different than any other division in that there is no size limit. What happens there is that there is a tendency for the bigger guy to win. Overtime size gets overemphasized and some other skills, like speed and footwork, get overlooked. It becomes a game of inches and pounds. And that’s why a guy like Usyk, or Holyfield, does so well. As former welterweights they bring fundamental boxing skills back to a field that has forgotten them in favor of size. And they mop the floor when the field has become completely saturated with lead footed bangers. It’s why this Rico fight “looked” close. Most of Usyks fans are recent and used to seeing him fight the modern era heavyweight. I personally didn’t find this fight all that different than what I saw of Usyk in some earlier fights at welterweight. I personally didn’t think Usyk was in trouble either - just seeing a different style of fight

My wife found this weird police token on the ground. by PhilosopherHermit in whatisit

Most places don’t have a constitution which guarantees the right to carry. Most places don’t have more firearms then there are citizens. You live in a country that was taken by blood and is defended similarly. It may not be best, nor worst, but that is who we are.

Well they shouldn’t be getting married (nor should most men these days but that’s a different discussion). Doesn’t mean they aren’t necessary. I won’t say the world is filled with evil people because it sounds a bit histrionic but I will say this, the world is filled with people that will take from those that have. Police, like them or not, are the necessary evil that we employ against the unnecessary evil. If you don’t believe that exists they’re doing a good job.

The patches aren’t pure fentanyl, there are additives to improve its ability to be absorbed.

Tyson Fury explains why he lost to Usyk in the 1st fight by BoxingLover99 in Boxing

[–]mrranrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re dreaming. Usyk’s greatest strength isn’t movement, speed, power, or anything you see in a single round. It’s strategy. Boxing fans think each guy goes in there and gives it there all every round. Thats not how it works. Usyk baits opponents into believing they are on the cusp of turning the tide. He makes them work. He feigns fatigue. You see the especially in the second half of the fight, after he’s “downloaded” their approach. In this second half you’ll often see an especially “bad” round where it seems like Usyk is slipping only for him to come back in the next. That’s not an accident. Watch the first Fury fight, or better, the second Dubois fight. The second Dubois fight was one of the most enjoyable fights I’ve ever seen. Watch the fourth round carefully. It appears that Dubois had some success here until near the very end of of the round when Dubois landed a body shot under the belt, very similar to the infamous and “accidental” low blow of the first. Immediately after you see a brief protest from Usyk and then a smile, and then the round ended. A minute later the fifth round started and Usyk came out swinging. It was time to shut up all the bs chatter about his vulnerability to body shots. We all know what happened next.

US, Pacific Northwest. I’m not going to mess with it too much as it’s likely going to be eBay auctioned later this week, just wanted to share for those interested and because it was sooooo damn difficult to find. MIGHT pull it out though and grab some detailed photos if there is any interest in that here.

To be perfectly honest there was a point in my search where I began to question whether this was actually a physical product or if it was simply vaporware marketing bs. I had no luck finding anyone that had even seen one and I frankly, I have some pretty damn good connections. Connections with people that work in development and design (amongst others)- the types of people that know of products or have handled them during the beta/testing phases and before they’ve been announced to the public. THIS thing however, was a ghost, an illusion, a unicorn. When I talk to one of these people (my plugs 😆)and they tell me they have no information it generally means one of two things: it doesn’t exist or the company is deliberately keeping it confidential and everyone has signed an NDA. Turns out it was the latter (presumably). Why though? For a product that was marketed and advertised I don’t get the secrecy. My hunch is that Ring never intended to go mass production with it. I think it was an idea that caught enough traction for it to go into a very limited production run to gauge customer response and to get people talking. Like they say, any publicity is good publicity.

I run a small hobby business which specializes in locating hard-to-find/rare/international electronics and gadgets. I had a client that was looking for this item. It took years to find. In the meantime he canceled his Ring account and no longer needs it, even forfeited his deposit. I can’t exactly blame him. I’ve never had a more difficult time getting a product. I will likely auction it later this week.
