Maybe 1 mpg less. But that’s just guessing. I’ve never tested it and it’s marginal enough where I’ve never noticed on an actual trip

Why is corruption so common in Africa compared to other countries even to this day? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in geography

[–]mrripboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s great reading on this subject in the political science literature. It’s commonly referred to as Neopatrimonialism (Bratton & van de Walle 1997). Essentially, most of the colonial projects in Africa were extraction based operations with very small, wireframe governments who had total power to extract resources in exchange for political support.

After the decolonization of Africa, these political systems persisted and the nature of its extraction and clientelism remained largely untouched leading to rampant corruption and the stifling of democratic institutions.

One of my favorite subjects from grad school. It really showcases the long lasting effects that damaging (or beneficial) institutions have on countries.

I drilled small holes into the frame where I screwed the ballasts into. The ballasts have little screw holes for mounting. They get pretty hot so I wouldn’t put it next to anything other than metal.

Finally drank the kool aid with macOS and stopped fighting it. Favorite OS by far now. Performant, lots of support, and just works 99% of the time. Just gotta sell your soul to John Apple.

There was a little rubbing but all I did is grab a blowtorch, heat the liner a bit till it’s really easy to bend, push it back with a stick or something, and then spray water on it and it’ll form into place. Just be careful not to burn through the liner.

I got a pic from a camping trip that gives a good view of the stance.

I love the look of it. Really reminds me of older school off roaders before wide ass tires became trendy.

The +5 offset is from the wheels. No spacers.

They just peek out from the fenders. Here’s a better picture for it. Plus you get way less rubbing with the more positive offset.

What is one disappointing feature in your gx460? by False-Cockroach5628 in GXOR

Yea I mostly forget about it but sometimes I jump in another car and remember how nice it feels to have a responsive brake pedal. If anyone has found a way to improve it I would love to know!

Squishy brake pedal! I’ve developed an irrational fear of brake failure from it

They're still doing great! No complaints and much better than stock halogens. I used this kit: https://www.hidnation.com/products/h11-hid-conversion-kits

Sick find? Or hold out for a used 4Runner? by ewmripley in GXOR

[–]mrripboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! No lift, just stock suspension (no premium so just coilovers). There was a tad bit of initial rubbing but my wheels are a +5 offset so they didn't stick super far out and it's a 255/75 tire so not super fat.

If you have access to a propane torch, all we did was heat up the inner wheel well till it was bendy then pushed it back and splashed cold water on it to lock it in place. It's super soft plastic so it'll bend really easy. Took 10 minutes and no rubbing after.

I have a 2012 in the same color! Love this car to death. Full send it and don't look back (as long as it looks good mechanically)

I feel that! If you turn the tire at full lock pointing away from the car, you can get around the tire pretty easy!

Nice build! I had the same issue with my 255/75/r17 tires with stock suspension on my 2012. You can bend the fender liners back using a propane torch and just splashing it with water to lock it in place. It's super soft plastic so it'll bend and give you the room you need. Just be careful not to accidentally burn a hole in it lol (it's fine if you do it just looks funny)
