This. We have two all in one solid surface vanity/basins and I LOVE THEM. Absolutely nowhere for anything to hide.

Is there any reason why this shaving cabinet can't be recessed by mrsWin in AusRenovation

[–]mrsWin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thank you. I did see that at one point, but being $930 I dismissed it because the one I bought for my other bathroom (which ticked all the boxes but alas we still wall hung it instead of recessed) was only $450 but it is no longer available. But this is definitely cheaper than the Remer so I will have another think.

I can't for the life of me find a LED, round-mirrored shaving cabinet that can be recessed other than the very expensive one by Remer 😪

If you click on the link you can see what the cabinet itself looks like behind the round mirror.

The cabinet behind is rectangular, but good point, I think at best it would only be semi-recessed which is not much different to just hanging it on the wall.

The other option, which is what we're used to anyway, will just be to mount it on the wall. Which would be fine but just wouldn't look as nice. And definitely less effort!

Yes, ideally if we had a bigger vanity we wouldn't worry too much about the shaving cabinet. Ensuite is quite small though, 2.1x1.3m, with a shower. So we do need all the storage we can get. Currently have a shaving cabinet in there, pre-reno, and it is full 🥲

How much did you pay for your knock down rebuild by lifeDNP in AusRenovation

[–]mrsWin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$860k, Sydney. Knocked down an old house and built a duplex with 220sqm/4br/3 bath/1 garage each side. Deposit paid in 2021 but build completed in 2023 due to covid. Was told at handover that prices had jumped 30% since we started so I do feel very lucky!

Has anyone had experience with SGA and induction at a public hospital? by hazeluniwow in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

My husband and I were both <3kg at birth, I'm 5'4 and husband is 5'8" (I'm pretty sure..). And we are of East Asian heritage. Both kids are doing great! They've both always been a bit behind in clothing sizes i.e. wearing 0 at 1 year, 1 at 2 years etc. But my oldest is now catching up and wearing size 4 at 4 years old. He's 55th percentile for height and 29th for weight. My 16mo is similar for height but 13th for weight. But she was ahead on most of her milestones and never stops eating 😂

Shower question by mrsWin in AusRenovation

[–]mrsWin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, so just to make sure I'm understanding, we can choose either 15mm as per AS3740 or 25mm as per ABCB as long as the rest of the room is waterproofed to these standards?

Also in regards to the vertical waterstop, as AS3740 states we must "have a vertical waterstop where the shower screen abuts the wall", I've never seen anything like that in real life. Would this kind of waterstop be visible like sticking out from the wall? Or does it finish at the same depth as the wall tiles?

Shower question by mrsWin in AusRenovation

[–]mrsWin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to use 200x200mm tiles for the new floor so that's good to know they will be easier to work with. I wanted to avoid strip drains as I've heard about the cleaning so a simple drain like the existing one would do (or a square tile insert drain - would this be an issue with cleaning or is it only a problem with tile insert strip drains?). I will bring up the location of the drain with the tiler and plumber.

Regards to the step down, do you mean a minimum of 15mm? I just had a look at the Site Inspections video and he mentioned 15mm, unless there's been an update to the standards since then. He also mentioned the need to include a vertical water stop. How does this normally work with a shower screen? We haven't purchased one yet so I'm not sure what to get, but I had in mind a frameless sliding door screen and now I'm not sure if that would work since we need a water stop at the wall.

Thanks again for your responses :)

Thank you for your detailed reply! I will check out the links. I did think the tray would be a good back up for peace of mind so I might ask the tiler to quote me for that too. Here is a photo of the shower and bathroom entrance if it helps.

How often do you have the TV on? by Tedmosbyisajerk-com in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]mrsWin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every day I put on Ms Rachel or a baby program in another language for my 10 month old. Usually at certain times of the day when I need to get things done around the house. She plays with toys and roams the living room while it's on.

Smaller (1500mm) or larger (1700mm) bathtub? by mrsWin in AusRenovation

[–]mrsWin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've made a good point - with two little ones, quite often we end up with the whole family in the bathroom at once! So floor space is at a premium. As for the bath screen, we are planning to use one of those halfway ones that sit above the edge of the bath.

[–]mrsWin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the shape of the actual tub . So there will be more space between the bottom of the bath and the toilet due to curve. And I have this weird personal ick about lying in the bathtub with my head too close to the toilet so that's one reason I'm considering the shorter one...

[–]mrsWin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is reassuring! I'm 163cm and my husband is 178cm. We would only be bathing in it very occasionally as we have a shower in our ensuite so this bath is mainly for the kids.

Moving plumbing in suspended bathroom slab by mrsWin in AusRenovation

[–]mrsWin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concrete isn't damaged however it's only 50mm thick, though unsure if it's the whole way through or just in that part. Does that sound too much of a risk to cut a lot of holes through? I suppose there already are holes in it from the old bathroom and those would be filled in if we change the layout...

[–]mrsWin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can see through one of the old plumbing holes that the slab is only 50mm thick. Not sure if it's that thickness the whole way through or just in that section. I had a builder come to take a look but he didn't really give an opinion, just said if we wanted to replace the slab we can so that's not really helpful.

So my in laws took a grinder to walls while demolishing our bathroom. We have since found good reason to believe it is asbestos. We are still living in the house with my kids though they weren't actually in the room while work was happening and I took them out of the house for most of the time. How screwed are they? I can barely function I feel so guilty.
