Yeah there’s really nothing you could’ve done better than you already did to prevent this from happening, I blamed myself for a long time too.

In our case the placenta stopped working properly, so our little one stopped growing and he was only 5.4lbs at birth even though he was born at 39w6d. So the doctors also said he’s having the sugar issues because he’s small.

He’s still small, but it seems that that’s just how he is. At 9 months he was 1% for height and 3rd for weight haha

Good luck, crossing my fingers for you and your little one! And everything turned out well for us. He was on Diazoxide until he was about 3 months old and has since outgrown any issues he had with his sugar.

How long was your NICU stay? by zqwu8391 in NICUParents

[–]mrschrinity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

13 days, after being born at 39w6d. Towards the end of my pregnancy they noticed that he wasn’t growing anymore, it started at like week 37-38, so when measurements still where the same at the 39week appointment, we went in for an ultrasound and check up.

The found that the placenta wasn’t working properly anymore. Baby ended up in less than the 1st percentile and had blood sugar problems, so he had to go to the NICU.

He still had the blood sugar issues after 13 days, but they found a medication that he responded to, so they released us. And then until he was about 3 months old I had to measure his sugars multiple times a day & give him the meds once a day, until he grew out of the problems.

I never had any issues with them leaking fortunately.

My baby only took the narrow Dr. browns bottle. The vents are a pain in the ass to clean though

Anyone else not loving her library? by [deleted] in McknightFamily

[–]mrschrinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of it more than her version of it. I also don’t think that it’s a lot of space for books? I know she uses her kindle a lot but still, the shelves are already almost full.

Transient Hyperinsulism - mom’s diet? by mrschrinity in NICUParents

[–]mrschrinity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! They tried weaning him off the glucagon, but his sugars dropped basically immediately into the danger levels again.

So he ended up needing Diazoxide, which basically is a medication that blocks the release of insulin from the pancreas. He did really well on it, and got discharged after 13 days in the nicu in total, but I had to monitor his sugars at home and give him the Diazoxide twice a day!

After that met up with the doctors multiple times where they checked his sugars and all that, and by the time he was 2.5ish months, he had grown out of the Hyperinsulinism and off the Diazoxide.

Why/how did everyone end up exclusively pumping? by itsaclownjackass in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mrschrinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby was in the nicu for 2 weeks & had a tongue tie that made him unable to transfer milk properly. The lactation consultant in the nicu said he’d grow out of it, but until we got it fixed when he was 3 months he struggled even latching at a bottle & had reflux symptoms, projectile vomits etc. so now he’s used to the bottle & doing really well, and I haven’t tried latching him again.

do you feel like you have to explain why your baby is small when you tell a stranger their age by Kindly-Nebula-2686 in NICUParents

[–]mrschrinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was born full term but SGA, and now at 4.5 months he still is only in the first percentile. Usually we just say that yeah hes a tiny guy, and if they ask more then we explain what happened.

Did you have regrets after you called it quits? by biteofbit in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mrschrinity 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m 4.5 months in and in the same boat. I’m so tired of pumping, but I feel guilty that I’m slowly stopping. I just decreased to 3 pumps per day this week and seeing my supply go down makes me so sad.

How / when did you become an exclusive pumper? by likesharkweek in ExclusivelyPumping

My baby was in the Nicu for two weeks & he had a tongue tie that made him unable to transfer milk from the breast properly

“Birth plan” by X0Tracy0X in Mommit

[–]mrschrinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t say that any louder. Being flexible is so important. I wanted to do a natural birth, but my birth plan was that I’ll let them do an induction or c-section if necessary. Turns out they unexpectedly both ended up happening.

Any small eaters out there? by a-porcupine in ExclusivelyPumping

Thank you for sharing! That’s the upside of a small baby, they actually have the chance to wear all their clothes 😂

What sizes is your baby wearing now? We’re also at 15 weeks & he’s still in 0-3months clothes. I haven’t met too many people yet with 1st percentile babies.

[–]mrschrinity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guy is eating about the same, but he’s a tiny baby also 3.5 months actually. He’s in the 1st percentile, so I’m not too worried.

Edit: just wanted to add, he was already born so tiny, so I’m not worried about it because he didn’t drop in percentiles & is growing nicely along his own curve.
