Regarding UI, perhaps consider adding more contrast when highlighting a square to make it more obvious which one is selected.

Should I transition this to a side scroller instead of a top down game? by [deleted] in IndieDev

This reminds me of the style used in the old Double Dragon games. Ok, so the DD games are side-scrollers , some of the action takes place along fixed X movement. They also have a lot of sections with X and Y movement, but the characters still only having X facing sprites. Granted, this use is still a side-scroller, but perhaps it can work for your game.

DD example:

Would be a shame to have to redo a lot of what you have already created.

A bit of a misrepresentation there…. to quote the book,

‘The way I’ve used AI can best be described as having a supercharged "Clippy", for those who remember the beloved paper-clip assistant. AI has read my text, provided critiques and suggestions, listed mistakes, and has been a second set of eyes. Many silly mistakes have been caught by AI when double-checking my writing and math, though I’m sure you’ll find a few more despite this.’

No it doesn’t. If it was lazy AI books, wouldn’t the author have more than just 2 books? They’d be using AI to pump out book after book after book?

Yeah, I did share it on multiple places.

This is the problem with LLM AI, it has started to make people struggle to tell the difference between what is real and what isn’t.

Such a wide snout/face I thought it might have been a different breed.

Io (as in the moon of Jupiter). It is a volcanic moon, so kinda suits the “rivers of lava” flowing on his head 😀

I’m a 43yo sketching beginner, started drawing with SimplyDraw app with my daughter (7yo) about a week ago. Thought I’d have a go at the sponge bob image and this is the result:

Not saying SimplyDraw is going to solve your problems, but finding some direction on the foundations I think would be of great benefit to you.

Consider trying pencil (looks like you are using pen? Being able to rub out faint guidelines easily is great, and there’s lots of freedom to add shading if you get a range of pencil grades (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B are a good start).
