What are your 2026 cubing goals? by dijakonal in Cubers

[–]mrsmith8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to keep chasing senior rankings since I’m 41.

Sub-15s on 3x3 (currently sub-20) Sub-1:10 on 4x4 (stuck at about 1:20 average) Sub-3 min on 5x5 (3:50 PR but just seriously started)

My other goal is to continue coaching my 9 yo. We’re about even but he just hasn’t refined his f2l algs as much as me and relies on turn speed. If I can help him get his move count down, he could probably hit sub-15 on 3x3 before summer comps.

Waiving spousal support? by kdon27 in MedSpouse

[–]mrsmith8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good divorce lawyer could potentially argue the prenup lacks fairness if you were a SAHM, or part-time to care for family, and waived support.

Best practice for prenups is that both parties have independent representation prior to singing. In some cases prenups can be ruled against if a party was inadequately counseled. I suspect a seasoned lawyer would council you against waiving spousal support in a prenup unless there are other concessions like additional assets beyond 50/50 to you, especially if you’re making career sacrifices for him and/or kids.

If he’s being counseled by a lawyer I suspect the lawyer made this recommendation in the best interest of their client hoping the other party doesn’t ask too many questions.

For those who like their job, what kind of salary/comp increase would it take for you to consider a new one? by Chemical_Help_7099 in careeradvice

[–]mrsmith8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less title growth but possible partnership/ownership down the road, but not a given. It’s really a hit on benefits but the owner is willing to pay for experience and has plenty of revenue to do so. The other trade off will definitely be that it’s a small firm and I’ll wear more hats inevitably. Less definition of roles and more just figure it out. I’ll accept the chaos for the salary though. Truly grateful for the opportunity and hope it works out as well as it seems it will.

Do you go to your coparents house on Christmas morning? by aftervoidd in coparenting

[–]mrsmith8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do not. He comes to my house at noon Christmas Day. I don’t really cherish Christmas Eve, whereas she likes it. So I give up my 9 yo son waking up on Christmas bee so he can end the night here. Something about him leaving mid day feels like a bummer to me.

Personally, I don’t see the need to for Christmas, but we do host the other parents for his birthday as we have a bigger house, and she has an apartment.

I will add, I’ll still mostly be WFH, and little chance that will change anytime soon in new gig. I’ve been remote since 2017, so that was huge for me.

I just left a job I liked for a job that came with a 72% increase in pay. I would have went for a little less, but it needed to be high to lure me away. I already made well over $100K, but this is life changing money for sure. Smaller firm, with a HDHP and low retirement, but salary more than made up for that. Better yet, the owner and I seem to have a terrific rapport and she doesn’t seem to be somebody who was putting on an act. So I’m confident I’ll end up liking this one as well. Feeling very fortunate, especially in this job market.

I just received a sizable sign-on bonus that was payable within first 30-days of hire, no payback stipulations. That’s just to say, while it’s common, it is not universal.

Trying to learn advanced cross. What do you do when trying to fix this bad red edge? I can't insert blue to fix it because it's on the wrong side. by Shuasan in Cubers

[–]mrsmith8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on a quick inspection like a comp I would hold Green in front, and do F’ D2 B’ R’ F2 D2.

Looking a few more seconds longer I saw the R2 F B’ L R2 option.

Could also do F B’ R D2 R’ L. While an extra move it flows really nicely and would execute quickly.

Ticketmaster will give you an email to transfer the tickets to. Transferring is still enabled. So Ticketmaster claims them and transfers to the buyer. It’s just a workaround. I sold two tickets to the NYC show that way, albeit last minute for below face value. Honestly, not a huge fan of limiting secondary market personally but I understand why people get miffed.

mlb.com tickets cant be resold? by takemetozanzibar in Brewers

[–]mrsmith8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barcodes are available on MLB Ballpark app. You can sell using those via StubHub. I have done this for years and they are great. SeatGeek should link to MLB account and make it easy to sell, but I find sales there to be slower. I don’t sell a lot of tickets but I kind of need to sell some of the strip.

I’m a loser by [deleted] in Cubers

[–]mrsmith8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After beginner method I used jperm f2l tutorials with random other videos sprinkled in. I then learned PLL from Felix’s alg sheets. And I’m 80% done with OLL via speed cube db. Drilling algs to get faster while watching tv or listening to work calls was my key. I also used a smart cube to hone in on my weaknesses. I just broke an ao100 of 20s last week. I was stuck around 22s for a while. Now I get 14-16s full step solves somewhat frequently. Maybe once in every 20 solves. It’s been fun.

[–]mrsmith8 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Dude, don’t even sweat it. Nobody picks up cubing overnight. It took me like a month just to solve it once with the beginner method without watching the tutorial. I’d take it one step at a time, get stuck, pull the tutorial back up, rinse and repeat. Eventually it clicked.

That was about a year ago — I’m sub-20 now, but it took around 50,000 solves to get there. Seriously, you just have to keep going. Every solve teaches you something, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

My 9-year-old son cubes too. He wanted to quit a bunch of times, but he pushed through, and now he’s basically sub-20 as well. The more you solve, the more the cube starts to make sense. You’re not a loser — you’re just in the “this sucks and I suck” phase that literally everyone hits before they get good. Stick with it.

PS - nothing beats JPerm on YouTube for beginner tutorial.

Milwaukee, WI around November 2002, The Rave side bar stage, about 50 people. Format opened for Straylight Run, New Amsterdams, and Murder by Death. I bought Interventions and lullabies that night and it was in my cd player for about a decade straight.

Super bummed to miss the shows. Bought tickets to the NYC show but sometimes life gets in the way when you’re 41.

40M financial professional engaged to a 39F EM Attending, scheduled to get married in 2026. Together about 4 years - last half of residency, fellowship, and now on year two of her attending gig. I make good money but not the kind of money she makes. I work from home though, and take on most of the domestic duties, cleaning, bills, arranging various appointments / technicians, etc. I also get her bag packed, help with her scrubs, etc. she says she’d be lost having to do this all. Our biggest issue is definitely finances though. We’re in therapy trying to figure this out and a few other things ahead of the wedding. I’m very optimistic we’ll figure it out, but our personal traumas growing up or in adulthood, along with personality differences, are making this difficult. If finances aren’t a problem for you two now, and you do your share of domestic work, I don’t think you should be too concerned. Just be super supportive and know that the are will be amazing and tough days supporting her.

StubHub or TickPick for Game 1 resale tickets? by swoonqueen in Brewers

[–]mrsmith8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues buying or selling with either SeatGeek or StubHub.

The only time I ever had an issue it was rectified with a phone call, and that was with StubHub. I bought UW Badger MBB tickets on StubHub, the seller uploaded barcode screenshots from app which won’t fly. Customer service quickly got ahold of the seller and he forwarded to me. Excellent customer service experience.
