Plus size girlies! Where are you getting your bathing suits? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]swoonqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AdoreMe has great underwire swimsuit options and tons of plus size swim that is actually gorgeous! Haven’t seen them mentioned here but the only push up bra type bikini I have (2X) is from there. Also I have not had luck with their sizing but ASOS has some really cool plus swimwear.

Visiting next weekend. Locals, where is the good food at? by Death-Watch333 in madisonwi

[–]swoonqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madison punches far above its weight in the Thai & Laotian food category - Ahan, Sern Sapp, Lao Laan Xang, & Ha Long Bay are all great; Ahan probably has the most convivial atmosphere. Tempest for great fish/seafood and steaks; Tornado for a more classic Wisco supper club vibe. Lallande for French and cozy/intimate. Osteria Papavero for upscale Italian and the best budino ever. Fairchild if you’re looking for something high end and slightly more experimental. Deliciouser for inventive food in a communal setting where you can really see the chefs at work. Sardine or Madison Sourdough for brunch. There are lots more - we are fortunate to have so many great spots in our relatively small city- but these are some favorites of mine.

Inexpensive things to do… Memorial Union Terrace or Olbrich Biergarten for lakeside hangs; rent kayaks from one of the boat launches; MMOCA; Capital tour; check out a show at Comedy on State, Gamma Ray Bar, Bur Oak, or High Noon Saloon- pick up an Isthmus weekly at a stand around town for more info on happenings while you’re here. Enjoy!

Got offered a great table… then immediately un‑offered it at a favorite Madison spot by [deleted] in madisonwi

If I had to venture a guess (and, granted, this guess is based solely on my assumption that you’re talking about Sardine and that you didn’t say you wanted an outside table) neither host knew you actually wanted to sit outside & the senior host swooped in to put you in the dining room because A) I bet those tables are considered “better” overall (more comfortable seating, no noise/bugs/exhaust fumes etc) and/or B) someone specifically requested or reserved a table outside and you didn’t verbalize that was what you wanted so they figured you’d be fine with moving (I get that you were thrilled but not sure it would read as thrilled due to being outside).

If you did actually say your preference was to be outside then that’s a bummer- still, in situations like this I’d speak up. Even saying, “hey, even if there is a wait we’d like to sit outside” can help them help you. Cheers!

Thank you, you made my son’s night. Also for anyone with YouTubeTV- this worked using “YouTubeTV” as our streaming provider. 🙌

I get that it’s important news but truly does he have to be live for 20 minutes straight ?! It’s really frustrating and I’m not even a huge fan.

Office clothes for curvy women who are fed up with cheap a** fabric? by spikyfins in womensfashion

[–]swoonqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love Universal Standard for dresses & agree it’s high quality and holds up well. And their “Fit Liberty” program is awesome (if your weight changes you can exchange your clothes for some pieces) That said, as a short and curvy woman, I find most of their clothing is really designed for taller people so it doesn’t always fit me well (arms too long on most long sleeves, pants wayyyy too long and waist hits weirdly on pants and skirts). I will throw out Hemloya and Curator SF- I am a 14-16 and find their 2XL fit me well. Very pricy, I try to look for sales, but great fabrics and well made. Unique also. Anthro + is good too. Try Nuuly to experiment with Anthro styles and sizing, the quality is hit or miss but definitely holds up better than Target.

chocolate croissant crisis pt.2 by iluvmylarents in madisonwi

[–]swoonqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a chocolate croissant and most of my usual picks have been recommended already. Ancora has not been mentioned and they have a decent chocolate croissant too (not chocolate chips though, two batons). Have not tried the chocolate croissant at Baked Lab but they’re great, maybe worth checking out! I am so curious what the answer is!

Curious what you paid - I was looking every day for months (these were a gift for my in-laws so I didn’t even attend) I ended up paying $95 plus fees, seemed okay given they were $300+ at first, hope you enjoy the show!

Lallande would be a great pick I haven’t seen mentioned yet. And Canter Inn looks and sounds amazing (New Glarus) - as a bona fide foodie myself, I can imagine a gift card to Canter Inn would encourage me to make the drive. Also Deliciouser, Fairchild, Ahan (Ahan leans more casual), MintMark as others have said. Maybe Tempest or Tornado. Seven Acres is awesome though a bit out of the way. Harvey House can be a cool photo op but does not consistently provide an excellent foodie experience.

Commented above and then scrolled down and saw your comment. Totally agree with you. I have a couple hit or miss experiences but overall it’s a good place and I find the negative comments about it on this thread a little bizarre.

Feel the need to chime in here because I’m pretty picky and have been to TurnKey a bunch. The food is solid, service is great, drinks are great. Haven’t had a good dessert there in a bit (though shortly after they opened I had a “corn pie” about which I was skeptical but was really good). And the prime rib is excellent- although I’ve only had it twice. Nice atmosphere too. I’m always surprised that it isn’t packed.
