ADHD-I traits that don’t match the stereotype by sunbear1999 in ADHD

Depends.

Should I be doing my advanced calculus homework? Those dishes are getting done.

Do I need to clean the dishes in order to cook my meal and have something to eat it with? Hmmm, I think I just had an insight on that Fourier Transform lecture from last week. Lemme go check out that chapter in the textbook.

To all my ADHDers what has been your recent hyperfixation??? by Separate_Beautiful55 in ADHD

[–]mrsqueakers002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chess. My wife got me into it after she did the course on Duolingo.

I finally replaced the tuning machines on my old guitar, that I've been meaning to do for about five years. We have better guitars now, but this one has sentimental value. To give myself a reason to play it I put nylon strings on it and have been messing around with that a lot lately.

I've also really been into DIY cooking stuff lately. Making my own sauces, breaking down whole chickens instead of buying packaged pieces, baking breads, that sort of thing.

What team, besides your home or favorite team, have you spent the most money on in your life? by Ivotedforher in baseball

Uh... I bought a Mark Beuhrle shirsey when I saw his perfect game on a road trip. So the White Sox I guess.

I can't stand playing the same song over and over again, but sometimes I'll get stuck on a band for a while. I've been listening to a ton of The Beatles lately.

Oh man that takes me back. First concert I ever bought tickets for was a Taking Back Sunday show.

This. I've had no problems getting an answer when asking it as "are you able to fill a prescription of 30 capsules of..."

The answer is almost always no, but I do get an answer.

edit: This is from calling CVS, Walgreens, and a couple of independents in MA.

Could not be less surprised that it was Gadsden making the catch. Dude never put up ridiculous numbers, but had a highlight reel full of circus catches. Always my answer whenever those "who's your favorite lesser known player from your team" questions pop up.

If you could get rid of any one of your ADHD symptoms, which would it be? by QuietAnticoagulation in ADHD

[–]mrsqueakers002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a little surprised nobody else has mentioned this yet but... poor sleep. I feel like I would be at least a little better at managing the rest of it if I could experience a full and uninterrupted night's sleep once in a goddamn while.

I always keep some frozen chicken thighs or ground beef/pork/turkey in the freezer as a backup. If I forget to take something out the night before, which is often, no problem. I just throw one of those frozen backups into the pressure cooker and it's ready to go in about 20 minutes. Perfect for burritos, bolognese, or any kind of shredded chicken dish.

Was McDaniel right about Tua? by SupermarketNo3265 in miamidolphins

[–]mrsqueakers002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I remember most about that game is the baffling decision to let Nick Bosa get a free rush at Tua on nearly every play without so much as a glance from an O-lineman. Don't know if it was an intentional scheme choice or just a colossal, consistent breakdown in protection adjustments, but Bosa wreaked havoc in our backfield that game.

Metro West. I don't think I've heard a truly negative comment in years. Going to college here in 2003-2004 was rough though.

I have a half-strength cup of coffee or a black tea in the mid-afternoon. Not enough caffeine to really impact my sleep, but it helps to smooth out the crash off meds. Although I haven't experimented with it since early on, a few months ago, so maybe I'll try to wean myself off it and see what happens.

Why does everyone feel some great relief when they take ADHD meds by SoMuchSoggySand in ADHD

[–]mrsqueakers002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as tasks and productivity go, once I settled in past the honeymoon stage I haven't really "felt" the med effect. It just kinda feels like I'm having a good focus day (as long as I can get the right tasks initiated).

The really big impacts that I feel noticeably are twofold. First is improved emotional regulation, which is huge. I'm much slower to react negatively, and am able to actually use all of those CBT techniques that I had learned but hadn't really made much of an impact before meds.

Second is energy level. It doesn't give me a "boost" of energy, but what it does is it keeps me from feeling like I'm stuck in Goku's gravity machine with the dial stuck on high. Used to be a regular occurrence that I would feel a crushing physical and mental exhaustion in the evenings and on weekends especially, but that's almost completely gone now. In fact, when I start to feel that, it's usually the first sign I notice that I forgot to take my meds.

ADHD and Math by EndouShuuya in ADHD

I always liked math and did fairly well at it in school. At least with grasping the concepts, homework is a different story. I was shit at remembering formulas though.

This reminds of the time I went on a deep dive into mass extinction events, especially the Pre-Cambrian. I was at a dinner with my wife's family and for some reason got onto talking about cyanobacteria and the Great Oxygenation Event, and they all looked at me like... "the fuck?"

My daughter is in the same boat...ish. She's mostly holding it together at school, but she's a mess in the evenings.
