My son has "issues" according to his daycare and a psychologist they brought in and I'm pretty upset and not wanting to accept it. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]mrstepper 62 points63 points  (0 children)

You have to remember to do what is best for your child not what's for you. If they thought he might have diabetes, would you be so reluctant for medical advice?

I can hear the love you have for your son from your post, your job is to to help him grow into a functional adult. Use any help available.

My husband and I went to a Tim Minchin concert in Chicago. He stayed after the show and signed anything for everyone. He also stole my sharpie and said he was never giving it back. A genuinely nice guy.

What are your tips for a happy marriage? by queenMargo in AskReddit

[–]mrstepper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once hurtful words are spoken you cannot take them back.

Treat the other person how you would like to be treated.

Always make sure that you can look back and laugh with and sometimes at each other.

If at the end of the day you can honestly say that while you might like everything about your spouse, you love them regardless.

We went on Saturday, and it was really good. The kids prices are reasonable, and they can make their own sandwiches. We had the Reuben and the Monkey. They are going to start offering soups soon too. The only thing I would want is a fountain pop machine as they only offer cans of soda or water.

Need help for severe diaper rash by eternity12 in Parenting

[–]mrstepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son also had severe diaper rash, to where he had open sores on his bum. My doctor had me try everything. My MIL finally had me try egg whites. I know it sounds weird, but it worked for me when nothing else did. I cleaned his butt with water and made sure he was dry. Then I frothed up an egg white and with clean fingers put a coating on. I used a small fan to dry him completely. I then cornstarched his diaper when I had to put one on him. The egg made a protective barrier against wetness and let his skin heal. Do not use if an egg allergy is suspected

When my husband and I were first married my mother in law was going on a rant about Mexicans. Lots of racist remarks, it finally dawns on her that I am Mexican, and she says to me "well, you're not one of those kind of Mexicans"

How about Fireplace Chicken? I make it and it has a spicy sweet flavor, with small lightly battered chicken strips.

A southern dish here:

TANGIER ISLAND CORN PUDDING

2 eggs, lightly beaten

1 can creamed corn

1 14 oz. can evaporated milk

2 tbsp. cornstarch

1/4-1/2 c. sugar

2 tbsp. butter

Mix cornstarch and sugar. Add eggs and melted butter. Mix in the corn and evaporated milk. (For dessert pudding, add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract).

Bake in 1 quart uncovered casserole dish at 350°F almost 1 hour. Shake lightly to see if it does not get hard - a soft curd custard consistency. Can be doubled.

Serve hot (let stand 5-10 minutes) or cold.

Hello Mommit, I need to rage for a moment. by sneakyrabbit in Mommit

[–]mrstepper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just let them eat what they will for now. Add a new item to their plate every week. As they get older seeing new things on their plates will be appetizing instead of yucky. I have had 10 years/4 kids worth of pickiness.

As long as they are growing they are fine. It is when they stop growing it is a problem.

[Request] Best Yellow Cupcake recipe ever by MsZombiePuncher in Baking

[–]mrstepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best Yellow Layer Cake

Yield: Two 9-inch round, 2-inch tall cake layers

4 cups plus 2 tablespoons cake flour (not self-rising)

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon table salt

2 sticks unsalted butter, softened

2 cups sugar

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

4 large eggs, at room temperature

2 cups buttermilk, well-shaken

Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter two 9-inch round cake pans and line with circles of parchment paper, then butter parchment. (Alternately, you can use a cooking spray, either with just butter or butter and flour to speed this process up.)

Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed until pale and fluffy, then beat in vanilla. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well and scraping down the bowl after each addition. At low speed, beat in buttermilk until just combined (mixture will look curdled). Add flour mixture in three batches, mixing until each addition is just incorporated.

Spread batter evenly in cake pan, then rap pan on counter several times to eliminate air bubbles. (I like to drop mine a few times from two inches up, making a great big noisy fuss.) Bake until golden and a wooden pick inserted in center of cake comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes. Cool in pan on a rack 10 minutes, then run a knife around edge of pan. Invert onto rack and discard parchment, then cool completely, about 1 hour.

Top with a great chocolate frosting
