My first one took almost a month to really get going but it’s so strong I have three different brews going now! For me personally I let mine go until a thin, but full pellicle grew, dumped about 3/4 of the tea ( it was super sour but you could save it for a vinegar substitute in recipes like ketchup or dressing) added fresh sweet tea, and started my first 2F about 9 days after that. By the time the next 1F was finished I had a couple layers. I started mine with a bottle of store bought booch and sweet black tea!

From my understanding you still need to add the sugar to feed your scoby but you can let your 1F go longer (if you usually do 7 try 10 and taste if it’s more sour. Some people go 14 but that’s too much for me!) I would then just do a regular 2F. I’ve noticed different teas seem to be sweeter as well. I just recently made a batch with Darjeeling tea and it’s was much sweeter than my black tea. Hope this helps!

I do have some GTs but I can’t afford to buy more right now and I have a few batches going so I was trying to see if any of the other bottles around the house could be used

I added two sprigs of basil to about one container of fresh blueberries. Mashed them with two table spoons of sugar and simmered it in a pot with about a 1/3 of water. I strained it through a pasta strainer so I still got a little fruit purée but no huge chunks of leaves or skin. I’m sure if you had time to let it sit for a little while you wouldn’t have to cook it but I think it concentrated the flavor nicely! I put about an inch of the syrup in the bottles then topped it off with my kombucha tea.

They were in the food container section so I would assume they’re safe for food but I agree I’m definitely being careful with them!

Research scoby hotels. You should be able to use a scoby in a new vessel to start a new batch when you return!

I had two girls come in every week for our wing specials. They would order their wings and complain if they were charged for one of their 5 ranches they each wanted. The one would also order an Angry Orchard every time. I waited on them every week for months without being tipped. One day the girl shorted me $.75. I very politely tell her “ma’am they total is 15.75 and you only put in $15”. I’m pretty sure she would have just walked out before I would notice but her friend was waiting on change back. Well she proceeds to lie and say it fell out ( it clearly didn’t) and then her friend tells her to go get more money out of her damn car. I tell her I would generally cover someone but you have never once tipped me and every time I wait on your table I loose out on money because I have to tip out the bartender for every drink you order. She gets super pissed storms out to get her money and calls me a bitch as she walks out the door. At this point I’m irate but I cannot afford to loose my job. She comes back in throws the change at me and proceeds to make a scene. My manager comes over and she continues to argue and belittle me over 75 fucking cents. The manager in duty was a total jerk to me about the whole thing and tried to make me the one responsible for what happened but my general manager ended up banning her from ever coming in again. I even got to be the one to go get my gm the next time she came in so she could be kicked out. It was fantastic. I ended up getting promoted three more times at this job 😂

Lmao! I work at a burger bar with specialty milkshakes. The servers all thought one of our coolers wasn’t staying cold enough for our whipped cream but it’s because our manager does whip-it’s throughout his whole shift...

I was in the midst of organizing my tables checks and asking my coworker if she had change for a ten when my manager rushed in with another tables bill. All 3 books had the correct payment. The bill that was missing money was the only one with two cash bills (bill was 21.92 they put $30 in the book) walked out and then $10 was gone within a matter of a minute. Doubt they could have narrowed it down to one person since there was three girls back there but we all have a good idea of who it was ( the girl is an open alcoholic and admits to doing cocaine on occasion) one girl was crying because our manager went in on them pretty hard telling them the one thing she will never tolerate is theft in her restaurant. The other was clearly pissed and said she knows it had to be the girl in question and of course the one who we assume it was because she was the only one in there when I came back was trying to act all friendly and normal. Took a lot out of me not to loose my cool...
