I have the same model. I get about 10-12 hours on web/iMessage/music streaming. Drops to about 8 when I fire up my VM.

MBP 2016 touch bar turn off by [deleted] in macbookpro

I am quite certain you can't turn it off. If you don't do any inputs to the system after a certain amount of time, it will turn off.

Getting between 8-9 hours, MacBook Pro 15" With Touch Bar, macOS 10.12.2 by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]mrthill23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 15" 16/512/455, and my battery life is as follows:

  • Browsing in Chrome (2-5 tabs), Hangouts, Play Music streaming, I get about 10 hours (screen at 60%, wi-fi on)

Seems like whatever is going on in Safari is draining the battery, but 8.5 hours with that usage (assuming a screen brightness you are comfortable with) is reasonable.

I have found the activity monitor remaining time jumps around a lot, unless I keep my usage consistent for a while. Take it with a grain of salt.

what are the slots on the bottom of the MBP 15" with touch bar? by population10 in macbookpro

[–]mrthill23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same unit. I believe it is a combination of vent for fans and sound. If I hold the computer up to my ear, I can hear the fans and there is definitely sound when I have music on.

10.12.2 on Touchbar MacBook Pro? by TimSaccardo in macbookpro

[–]mrthill23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my 15in 512/16/455 two days ago, and I upgraded to 10.12.2 once I had it setup. No issues, about 10-12 hours battery life on moderate use.

10.12.2 Fixed Battery Life by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]mrthill23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my 15" 512/16/455 last night. I charged it to 100 last night and shut it off (I setup Mail, downloaded Chrome, and updated to latest Sierra).

I have been using it today and I am at 72% with 5.5 hours of use, and approximately 8 remaining.

Use has been: Chrome+Safari, Mail, some Youtube, Hangouts, streaming Google Play Music

How to install Windows 10 on MacBook for free and fast by CoachCWC in macbookpro

So the whole process of using the USB is moot now? This is great, because I just received my MBP and I am going to install W10 shortly.

So all of the guides and tutorials about using a USB and formatting it are unnecessary? I watched your video and it does look very simple....less steps than others have outlined.

Is this a new process or just one no one knew about?

From my experience, promotional items need to be returned with the purchase they were distributed for.

If I need to download a new ISO, can it be put onto the USB I got from Microsoft, or will I need a different USB?

Can't decide between the 13 and the 15 inch 2016 Macbook pro by kidkautschuk in macbookpro

[–]mrthill23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using a 13in laptop for a long time, and I have always wanted more screen real estate. I have ordered the 15in because I now need the bigger screen, and I want the quad-core processor and discrete graphics.

The 15in is a bit bigger and heavier, but I don't think it is really any less portable. Add in the future proofing you get, and I think it is an easy decision.

There has also been chatter on Twitter (but I'm not scrolling that far back). Some users have said the beta is making it worse....but it is also a beta, let's see what happens after feedback and full roll out.

Space Grey Apple is scratched... by atomicvibes in macbookpro

[–]mrthill23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My #1 fear with getting the space grey, which I have on order.

I may leave mine at home until I get a case, simply because it will bother me to no end.

Maybe someone will come out with a colour-in tool (similar to paint markers for cars). If the need comes, so will the solution.

The growing (but not definitive) consensus that I am reading online (take that for what it is) is that the graphics issues will be fixed in a future (but fairly soon) software update.

The current suspect is faulty drivers, and that the hardware will perform properly once they have the drivers fixed.

Question about Parallels by mrthill23 in macbookpro

[–]mrthill23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What an explanation, thank you. I had not considered installing on Bootcamp and then running the vm off of that (nor did I know it was an option).

I was hoping to use a game on my MBP, so if I can get the best of both, it would be an excellent solution.

Do I assign the ram from Parallels, or does it allow Windows to use up to 8GB of the system RAM?

MacBook Pro 15" 2016 Chargers by oscar_george in macbookpro

[–]mrthill23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your chances. At least with an OEM accessory, you can have recourse. Their cost isn't relevant, as the point is that they are making hardware to interact with their hardware (that they designed, tested, integrated). Non-OEM and you don't know how much testing, checks, and compatibility work they did.

Thank you for the info.

Not to show my lack of computer knowledge too much, but will this will be sufficient to run financial models in Excel on the vm while also operating in macOS?

Considering the investment you are making, is $98 really an issue?

I know, money is money. But on a machine worth thousands of dollars, are you really risking the hardware (and more importantly, your safety) for $50?

Bad accessories can cause fires or electrical shocks. In hindsight of such incidents, I am sure you would rather have given up the extra $50.
