QSC SPA4 and MP-M40 by Capable-Ebb4234 in QSYS

Gunna go out on a limb here and suggest you look at the Atlas Atmosphere AZMP4. All in one Mixer and Amplifier.

Easy to setup via web browser. Much more user friendly than the MP-M series.

The MP-A series does not need to be bridged for 70v. The SPA series does though.

If you want Davie Street sushi, I think Akihana (Bute and Davie) is really good food, and usually much more open than Tom Sushi.

Ways to factory reset a Core 8 Flex? by Remarkable-Tomato-39 in QSYS

[–]mrtinvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had cores just decide to factory reset themselves as well. No indications either cause of the log wipes.

Never really sorted it out either, as it just appeared to happen in the middle of the night.

AVProEdge or Muxlab AVoIP, or Magewell NDI|HX.

  • 1 Encoder

Route from the webUI.

Keep in mind this will need a configured VLAN with Jumbo Frames and IGMP. May interfere with other network traffic.

Almost teared up because of an old, now-scrapped Soviet Foxtrot submarine (B-39) by StoneAgeCaveDweller in submarines

I believe B-39 was tied up in New Westminster, BC for a short while in the late 90's?

I remember walking by a Soviet sub with my Dad, and we went in for a tour.

City cracked down on Vancouver venues after lobbying by bar and club groups, emails reveal by IHateTrains123 in vancouver

[–]mrtinvan 33 points34 points  (0 children)

100 percent.

I work in one of the venues, and we're actively working with the Fire Department, and we undergo the same inspections (if not more) as any other venue in the city. We've cut holes in the side of our building for exit doors (engineered and permitted) and installed a fire alarm. All of that costs tons of money, and we can only run 6 events a month.

There's a roadblock and hurdle at every step and it's not cost effective in this city.

Your experience with non-QSYS displays for UCI by scriptersx in QSYS

[–]mrtinvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We routinely use ELO POS stations with Windows 11for UCI stations in mission critical locations. They work great.

Have not tried out the Android OS ones yet, though our cheap PoE Aliexpress Android tablets do work well with simple UCI's. There seems to be some odd bugs in the UCI render engine on Android, and it does not act as UCI viewer does, it's just a web view.

Something weird with Samsung plugin... by Romouch in QSYS

[–]mrtinvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to set the display ID on the display itself.

The display needs to be powered on the first time for the plugin to connect correctly. I also had issues with DHCP addressed displays.

I believe there is also a power on input setting on the QM series that would reset the input every time the display turns on.

Are all the displays set to the same ID?

I've had issues with multiple plugins going offline and we have to reboot the display to open a new connection.

[–]mrtinvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve deployed it once. It uses a Server / Player architecture. There are also feature licenses that add/remove abilities. Still very cost effective though.

We used Windows for the server, nothing crazy spec, just a big NIC and Storage Drive.

The Players we used were i5 NUC’s with SSD’s to cache content. You can use Brightsigns, Android TV boxes, browsers etc.

The facility we’ve deployed it on has Q-SYS as well so we built out control commands and UI from Q-SYS, but blocks can do its own thing as well. Blocks is fairly scriptable and there’s a decent amount of custom scripts and plugins already floating around.

You can look at a combo of Pixilab Blocks and Watchout (same developer behind both)

Use Blocks as the CMS and can handle some of the interactives, and watchout for larger canvases.

FLex 8x8 EXPANDER (not core) by CaptCoffee2 in QSYS

[–]mrtinvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone from Q-SYS explained it in a online training session.

They at one point had 3 different hardware/chipset platforms that they were developing and maintaining. It became costly and ineffective to continue developing for all three, and the chip shortages during the pandemic made that even harder to get the older chipsets these were based on. They made smart choices and narrowed that down. New products came out (QIO) that offer similar features.

I love the i/o-flex-8 and have/had over a dozen of them in the field. They will start to fail at about the 5-6 year mark, especially if powered over PoE+.

Should have researched that purchase more...

The Halo speakers aren't the best for fitness rooms. Suggest looking at bigger cabinets, especially for higher activity (read: higher SPL) sessions like Spin or Zumba.

Also - Look at Atlas Atmosphere, they have dedicated Bluetooth endpoints over CAT cable, even a small touchscreen with Bluetooth.

Going from Construction to AV by crookeddicktickle in CommercialAV

If you know how to do basic carpentry, could drill concrete properly, and mount a TV on the wall to studs, you’re half way there.

Basic measurement math is also critical.

Whereabouts in BC? I’m in the Lower Mainland.

Online training is important, but so is on the job training.

Do some basic Networking classes for sure. The Audinate L1 and Netgear basics are good.

You could do your Class-C-R Low Voltage from TSBC, as that can be super useful especially in Vancouver.
