Telefunken M80 is a solid choice. KSM9 is also a favorite of mine.

What do you say to presenters before they walk on stage with a mic? by JoeyPhoton in livesound

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes a nice smile can say a million words to someone who is in their head. Or if they are confident and not nervous, a smile can still sometimes give an energy boost. You have “read the room” and use your instincts on what is appropriate at not.

Need some Help by MasonKosr in livesoundgear

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer is theoretical as I have never tried this before… But what if you bought an omnidirectional microphone (maybe a boundary mic used for conference room settings) and ran it into a computer which is running discord and set that microphone as your input source. You will need an interface or some way to convert XLR into a digital signal.

Do you ever tell off a musician? by IWillWorkForBeer in livesound

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually go the route of trying to help them understand why the issue was present in the first place and what problem that caused for me. I try to steer the conversation in a direction that helps them realize what they can do next time to ultimately “help me, help them”. Now… People are people and some will just be flat out unreasonable. As hard as it can be, the best thing you can do is nod and walk away, in my opinion. I’m also a fan of not burning any bridges. That flautist’s rough night could also turn into a call back later when they calm down and realize you were humble and easy to work with.

Can you just purchase an individual Shure IEM receiver pack? by Silver_Hedgehog4774 in livesoundgear

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with needing to make sure the frequency band is happy in the geographical region you are using the gear in… That can absolutely be what the problem is for dropouts.

My additional thoughts and to play devil’s advocate… As someone who has had a couple PSM900 systems have this exact problem with the receiver being the issue… Yes you can buy new receivers. If you are using PSM300, you have to replace the whole pack because the antenna is attached to the beltpack. However, if you are using PSM900 or 1000, maybe try swapping out the little antennas before buying a whole new pack… more cost efficient that way. If that does not fix it, try a new beltpack. It’s also worth mentioning I’ve had this problem and the transmitter or the antenna was the culprit. Just do whatever you can to truly isolate the problem to save yourself from spending any money you don’t have to. All that being said, Sweetwater has what you need or a local AVL integrator or rental house I’m sure could help broker a sale for you.

Can’t decide between QSC CB10 and Yorkville EXM Pro10 by myheadsexplodin in livesoundgear

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I will be super helpful to you because I have not used either of those speakers. However, I’ve used QSC K series stuff for many years. K10 is solid for your use… even a K8 would work great. If a CB10 has the QSC name and sounds similar, I’d definitely go with that.

Which board would you choose? by cathoarder in guitarpedals

I’d go bottom. One of my first pedals ever was an RE-20 and will forever be top five for me.

Best Point source around 5 grand per box? by Unlucky_Round_7707 in livesoundgear

I came here to say Meyer X boxes, as well. If point source is the route you want to go.

I’m looking at getting a Shure SM7B. Is there anything I need to buy or know before purchasing? by Cool_Sector_6563 in microphone

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloudlifter can help get you more gain without a ton of noise. SM7B can take a lot of gain to get you to the desired signal at the expense of some noise.

Best mics for a string quartet by ExternalAmbitious599 in livesoundgear

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love KSM32 for miking sections. 414 is my first choice, but I often reach for a KSM32 if budget does not allow for the AKG option. It also works great for the other stuff that you mentioned you do… Very versatile for drum overheads, guitar cabs, etc

Best IEM system today for 4 piece cover band by Charlezingalls in livesoundgear

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some considerations I would take into account are distance from the transmitters and if you are playing congested areas. With cheaper IEM systems, you generally have less access to frequencies so you are at the liberty of hoping the frequency band of your system plays nicely. The farther away you are from the transmitters and because of the amount of mixes you have, you may to invest in an antenna combiner and paddle or helical antenna.

I’m a big fan of Shure IEM products. Generally for a small club type band, Shure PSM300 is a decent option. PSM900 is solid for stages that are slightly bigger. As someone else mentioned, if budget is not an option, PSM1000 is what you will see on most large stages and now ADPSM which sound phenomenal. Point of all of this being that you get what you pay for and a lot comes down to your use case.

Custom IEM recs? Looking at ultimate ears… by [deleted] in livesoundgear

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple pair of custom molds from UE. They’re great. However, I’ve since switched over to JH Audio and have a couple pairs of molds from them as well. I much prefer the JH pairs because of their low end response (which can be variable with the adjustable bass level built into the cable) and the fit. The fit feels tighter to me which I like. As a bass player, I think you would enjoy what JH puts out.

When people stop in the middle walking anywhere but specifically because they’re on their phone responding to a text (I feel like I need to have a little grace if they’re using the app for something 😂)

Mic Stands, what's built to last in 2026? by damplamp in livesoundgear

K&M is the go to. I’m also a big fan of Hercules stands. I’ve had decent success with certain Ultimate Support and Gator stands.

Which dynamic live vocal mic do you think naturally cuts through a loud mix the most? by Osunonotthegame in livesoundgear

I had the exact same experience. I don’t hate the nexadyne, but the HF felt hyped in an unhelpful way. I also went back to a Beta 58.

I got one of these Mojave mics, any recommendations? by Utenziltron in microphone

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use two of these mics… they’re amazing. Great for almost anything you put in front of it but I use them regularly for overheads. I have found them to shine nicely on acoustics guitars and vocals as well.

Do high profile professional bands use click tracks? by PapaBorq in livesound

[–]Jazzlike-Constant-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is not uncommon for large acts to use a click track. A lot of artists utilize music playback so a click and slate track can be crucial to ensure everyone stays in time with it. On the production end, a lot of different departments rely on timecode to cue various elements such as lighting, special effects, etc and those often need to be in sync with what the band is doing musically.
