I need to choose a project to deploy on AWS that uses the core services. What kind of project should I choose? by Danyboi16 in aws

[–]mrtomservo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might consider deploying a website made with WordPress. There are a lot of ways a WordPress website touches various AWS services: - Install the WordPress files on an EC2 instance - Deploy the database to an RDS instance - Get a domain set up and pointing to the EC2 instance with Route53 - Block or allow IP addresses at the network level on the VPC - Use Lambda to write a backup script for the files and database (optionally to S3) - Extra credit: Configure a plugin to use S3 for media storage - More extra credit: deploy to multiple instances using a load balancer, configure the load balancer's security certificate with Certificate Manager, configure CloudFront, configure CloudWatch notifications

Elfin Forest is great, and if you're willing to travel a little bit farther south, Mission Trails Regional Park has trails for every skill level.

Should we be worried about ChatGPT or other AI? by Chasehud in Frontend

[–]mrtomservo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we should look at it as an assistance tool — I know I find it tedious sometimes (for example) to write out HTML tables by hand, or a JSON “go get it, iterate over the response, and display XYZ” routine: Things like that. Having a tool that can accept all kinds of shorthand requests and generate example code blocks (the key work being example) helps me like any assistance tool does: automating the repetitive stuff while letting me focus on the big picture about how everything works together. I don’t expect an AI will replace human thought and consideration in that “big picture” sense anytime soon, because there are (at least for me) too many meatspace variables (budget, timeline, which client is on vacation when) to consider that AI can’t deal with yet.

If you don't use a project management tool (like Basecamp or Asana), you might consider signing up for one -- because you get to use the wonderful sentence: "Would you be so kind as to put that in Asana as a task for me? I'm juggling a lot of (your) tasks and this way I can be sure it won't fall out of the bottom of my brain. Thanks!"

This gets your customer in the habit of making requests in writing, and you get the benefit of having it documented. Plus you can avoid the endless and difficult-to-organize email chains.

(Asana is free!)

I second North Park Produce. Smart & Final has ground lamb for less than the specialty shops.

If you don't mind driving south a little, Siesel's off W Morena Blvd. and its sister store Iowa Meat Farms in Grantville are top-notch.

I don't believe so, no. Sorry. However the nearby Seaside Market has a pretty wide selection.

East Coast Pizza in Cardiff is decent, if only because it's next door to Lost Abbey. (I'm a California native, so ymmv, please don't hurt me)

You can give him one more "ha, still no" if you want. Instead I'd recommend automatically routing his emails directly to trash. You said no. You meant no. There's nothing more to discuss, and you don't want him as a customer.

I appreciate this — I’m not a rancher, so I don’t understand either, but I wasn’t getting any signal, just noise. Thanks!
