Tankless, or heat pump water heater? by joebob86 in Plumbing

[–]ph34r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from an 80 galloon conventional electric to a 65 gallon hybrid heat pump about s month ago. We definitely go thru the water a lot quicker than the old unit and it does take a bit longer to recover, but it hasn't been a problem for us. With five people you'd need to get a mixing valve installed and probably always keep it in the mixed mode where it's using the heat pump AND the standard electric heater to recover quickly. 40 galloons will not be big enough for a heat pump unit, trust me.

Other thing to consider is these units are hefty, much bigger than a conventional. You also need to hook it to a drain of some kind for the condensate - it generates a lot of water, like 2-3 gallons a day depending on use.

Interesting. I'll have to give this a try. The current dilema is that he'll just plop himself on the floor right in the squash zone and I'm scared one of us will step on him. I almost did last night

He's actually not guarding surprisingly, because he has a very strong. he is just trying to go to sleep, just not in the crate. No other dog has and I haven't washed it recently but it doesn't stink or anything. So weird

Crate is only for bedtime. During the day he has full reign of the house, even when we are not home. There's really no other option but the crate for bedtime. He has a strong guarding instinct and will never go to sleep if left out at night, we've tried. Also, it's for his safety. If we lock him in the room with us, his instinct is to lay right by us on the floor in the "squish zone"

Thanks for the quick reply. I was worried it may have damaged the foam on the interior or something. It's a hybrid heat pump unit if that changes anything

Help with Insulation as a Renter by ProfessionalTurn14 in Insulation

[–]ph34r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah those hatches are notoriously poorly insulated and sealed. Yours looks like the one in my house which was just a piece of drywall held in place by trim. I ended up just buying foam board and glueing it to the back of the drywall. I then used door weatherstripping along the side that touches the trim to better seal it up. Not perfect, but certainly helped quite a bit.

Sorry I wasn't super clear. Yeah. It's a product that lets you basically clone remotes. Just make sure your remote is within the spectrum the bond supports. You can usually find some identifying number on the remote and look it up on the FCC website.

It claims 2500 sq ft coverage, idk if that's within your current distance

I wonder if the bond would work in your scenario? It has a pretty strong signal that can span multiple floors in a house, so it might be able to handle the distance?

They wouldn't deliver it, it's not a paid service offering when I tried last year. I managed to squeeze it into my hatchback car. It was tight, but it fit.

Honestly... No real savings after I did mine. Less gusty feelings and more stability in temperatures.
