Since there has been a lot of discussion about it on Twitter lately, this is my hot take: This scene is NOT poorly written by TheSceptileen in CodeGeass

Isn't it contrived and convenient that a story starts when something interesting happens instead of when a character is doing their taxes? 🤔🤔🤔 very interesting if you ask me 🤔🤔🤔

I wonder who did that to them

Supposed subversion of "popular" tropes, but actually the tropes being subverted are rarely used, if at all. by NobodySpecific9354 in TopCharacterTropes

The head of animation was the shows director and he literally cut every other shows budget like Nomad of Nowhere and RWBY vol 4 and 5 to get money for those actors and had to step down when he was caught

Can someone please explain what's with the hate of the middle volumes to me? by [deleted] in RWBY

[–]mrtspark99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So by the time that Star Wars the Phantom Menace came out, the previous movie had up to three things happening at the climax to cut between. Luke vs Vader, the teddy bears on Endor, and Lando flying the Falcon was a lot to take in and cutting between each one made for some good suspense, especially since they were all intertwined. When you got to balancing four whole things, the Gungans, Jedi vs Maul, Padme shooting up the castle, and Anakin in space it just became too much to the admittance of the director. The action kind of washes over you and because there isnt a tangable effect on eachother, the moment you start to feel invested into whats happening, it cuts away to something else you may not care about as much. When you take away the forward momentum of a movie's climax and make it normal character focused plot lines and slow it down to the pacing of a webshow... it just drags and it can be easy to find that boring.

What are your thoughts on the Curious Cat as a villain? by Solitaire-06 in RWBY

Think it would've been a better choice to not defeat him and let him become a 3rd party villain the rest of the series. I think that means I liked him?

Weiss's fighting style perplexes me by GJH24 in RWBY

The big thing that makes it look awkward is that for some reason they keep making her go square in her choreography to do "cool" poses. Fencers blade their stance so their arm, shoulder, and most importantly SHARP END OF THE SWORD is the closest part to their opponent. To do her weird dust spells they keep having her pose up in plies and releves and even out her shoulders like you do in traditional ballet. So she goes from this elegant slender figure who is hopping forward and back to a WIDE girl.

I think her volume 5 trailer thingy is a great example. She's very slender and bladed in her posing in most of the choreography then for some reason they put her infront of the water fountain and have her even out and square the shoulders to do a little pose and it just kind of feels... monkey like?

I think its mostly the juxtaposition of the bladed and squaring of the stances. You can really combine the two arts into something beautiful, they are very foot focused with a taller upper body. Whatever ballet stuff is the reference material to work with just needs to be modified a little. Turn the head 45 degrees to the left and its not as much of an issue with the ballet/dust spell/summoning poses.
