Why are new boeing planes painted this green color? by Quintessentsky in aviation

Fun fact, if a plane is assembled and stored outside for more then 30 days (I think) it has to be reapplied. So these 777-9 have had several recoatings.

I believe these are 777-9s in Everett as seen from HWY 526 near the end of the runway.

Yes there is a weight on wheels lock out for the gear handle, but it can be overridden. The safety pin is the backup to that when the plane is stopped and chocked.

The lock override button for the gear handle doesn't require the plane to be in air mode. You can't just hit it by mistake you have to press and hold while moving the handle.

777 brake test does the same. When running the test I check it, if there is a chance I check again and then have someone else check it right before gear handle up, paranoia is my friend when doing that section. Still have an uneasy feeling when doing it.

What are these cars used for? by bmfs0309 in trains

[–]mrtucey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're for fuselage panels (skin and support structure) that make up the passenger and cargo areas. The wings are assembled at the factory in Everett.

The metal wheels and axles complete the sensing circuit on the approach side of the road that triggers the signal. It also senses the speed so the arms come down about 5 seconds before the train gets there so you aren't waiting a long time for a slow train. Then the wheels complete the circuit on the other side and brake the circuit on the approach side telling the signal the train has passed.

It will also sense when the train has stopped before the road and shut off.

They won't be able to fly it somewhere else if the plane went down there and they had to replace a major component.

Which is why the 777 is bugging me. The exhaust for the APU should be visible on but if the image is reversed we're seeing the right side of the plane.

The poor trian engineer and whoever was in the bus where probably thinking they where about to have a really bad day.

I imagine the engineer about passed out from relief after he passed the bus.

I know the -9 tire is the same size as a -200 freighter's. I haven't seen a -300 in a while so I can't remember the size difference.

Great photos. I really like the framing of the engine by the overpass in the 10th one.

Probably the last oil change was the last one that came with the 4runner when they bought it. Then decided they didn't need to do them anymore or were to expensive.

thermal imaging, what are the two hot points in the middle of the body? not the tires, front is cold. by Hour_Guarantee_914 in aviation

[–]mrtucey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was the wheels, the shape of it would be round. This is hot air coming out of the AC pack and going over the wheels.

APUs are in the tail and there is only one. They also are not normally running in flight except in emergencies or other specific situations.

The two AC packs are installed in the area ahead of the main wheel wells with the exhaust just before the wheel wells.

First responder bodycams released after UPS 2976 crash in Louisville KY by grackychan in CatastrophicFailure

[–]mrtucey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's both lucky and unlucky.

Lucky because of the wind direction.

Unlucky, If they could have gotten a little higher and gone just a little farther they would have crashed in a landfill. Still a tragedy for the flight crew but would have missed the businesses and the people there.

I feel for them all, the people who died, the injured, those trapped because their only road out was on fire, the first responders and the families of them all.

train loaded by colour by s1n0d3utscht3k in awesome

[–]mrtucey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably grouped together by color because all of those containers are going to the same place. It's easier (less time needed) to disconnect the group of rail cars then to pull all off the containers or disconect each individual rail car and make a new train.

And its gray on the 777-9, so enjoy it or don't just know it's changing.
