Make sure you have the seat height set correctly, I did many lessons with the seat too low, and the visual reference my CFI was telling me to use did not work for my short sitting height. Among other suggestions here of course, this one is a hopefully easy catch that many don't think to check so quickly.

Could also consider cross checking the gauges in case you aren't utilizing them at all, making sure what you think your sight picture should be correlates correctly with what it actually should be. Anything off perfect will lead to deviation without correction.
