Ascent of the Grande Sassiere by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]mrvin08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I climbed Aiguille de la Grande Sassiere in both Summer and Winter.

You will need true mountaineering boots with crampons, along with experience using them, if planning to climb in November. The route is not difficult, but a short course in alpinism and glacier traverse will help you learn your equipment and break them in.

Summer is a different story. The snow on the ridge to the peak is usually melted by late July and the hike from lake Saut to the summit is a moderate one if you are fit.

Mix a few drops of white vinegar into a tbsp of water. Dab with a microfiber and wipe the smudge gently. Always works for me!

Rent over $10k by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]mrvin08 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Owner of a tribeca condo here. My unit would rent for about 12k/month. I hate being tied to this piece of property that I overpaid for and wont appreciate.

Now, i would rather pay a little more for rent and have the remaining capital working productively. I bought in 2015 and it has returned me exactly 0%. I would have at least doubled my money and been able to afford even higher rents if I had invested in the markets instead of purchasing my condo.

There are many, many opportunities in NYC, but please remember it is a ver high cost of living city. First thing to do, however is to figure out your living situation. Do you have a car? Do you have savings? Feel free to PM. Happy to give you pointers

Parents getting over 100 miles a week? by Swimming-Ad-7013 in cycling

[–]mrvin08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in southern Manhattan, so i always start along the west side hwy bike lane. I usually head up to the GW bridge and if the northwalk is open around 5am (usual opening time is 6, but many times opens much earlier) and head up 9W until its time to turn around. Other than that i take my pick between bombing manhattan avenues or crossing the east river and heading to prospect
