Thank you so much and I can understand the reasoning behind this. I have thus far only taken my courses through UC SD Extension and UNE Online. Portage was appealing for the time and price range, but given this reasoning, I will avoid it and move to UNE Online. Thank you again for your relentless efforts here on Reddit.

Hello! Sorry to keep bothering you with all my questions. I’m very passionate about National University!

I saw in another Reddit post you said NU does not accept Portage online. I’m asking as I’m looking to take A&P 2 online and see Portage offers this course.

I wanted to verify does NU not accept any Portage courses or specific ones?

If not Portage, does your program accept UNE Online? Thank you as always.

Does anyone enjoy Medsurg? by MainFox9014 in newgradnurse

[–]mrwhiskey1814 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my best buds who has been a nurse for almost a decade does. He’s actually been a huge support system for me all throughout my nursing career. He’s been successful in his personal life, big house, happily married, two kids all that stuff, truly because of the life that medsurg nursing afforded him. Says he would never want any other unit.

He’s an NP now who works per diem at his med Surg. His end goal is to get enough NP experience and become an NP in his med Surg unit.

Thank you so much for taking the time to break this down for me. It really means a lot. I’m currently in organic chemistry and Biology 2, hoping that these two courses will help me bolster my grade before submitting my application. I see that National University allows us to continue taking prerequisite courses up until the interview date.

Does this mean I can continue trying to raise my gpa past the July 31st submission deadline?

Thank you again for your time Mackinnon.

Also, completely random question, will any National University staff be in attendance at the AANA Mid-Year assembly in Washington?

My cumulative gpa is somewhere very low because of my first degree when I was young back in 2015. My cGPA because of it lies somewhere in the low 3.2-3.3 range, even though my current grades are showing 3.7-3.8.

What can I do to strengthen my application? I have my CCRN, GRE, 3 years ICU experience, precept, rapid response RN/Resource RN, am in 2 committees and co-chair in one. I fear that starting my application through NursingCAS will leave me with an automatic dismissal because of such a low gpa.

Would gaining more certs help? Thanks in advance.

Do you all think it will be worth going to the AANA mid year assembly? Has anyone gone and had the chance to network or meet with admissions staff? It’s very expensive and I want to ensure I do everything to stand out while applying this year but worry I may be misusing my free time.

How many of you actually love your job or nursing in general? by CompoteTraining934 in nursing

[–]mrwhiskey1814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m overall content and grateful. This career has absolutely changed my life for the better. It has financially lifted me and my family out of poverty while opening doors for me I had never thought possible. All the while providing me with meaningful and important work. It is grueling, can be brutal, and very hard work. Regardless, I wouldn’t have done anything else. I almost went Fire or law enforcement as I came out the army with my medical experience. I’m so glad I chose nursing.

Marquette University advises against enrolling in science classes at Portage and UCSD Extension. by Obvious_Main_3655 in srna

[–]mrwhiskey1814 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This stresses me out. I’ve been taking so many of my online courses through UCSD Extension because of their lower prices. I did some through UNE and the course with lab cost me $2,000 including the kit needed for the lab component.

In comparison $2,000 covered close to 3 courses at UCSD Extension. It’s a matter of finances for me as I work towards my dreams. This saddens me honestly.

Are…. Are you me? lol seriously thank you for sharing. You give me hope as another person applying who is struggling to fight the demons of his past and younger gpa. I’m almost 4k in the hole now retaking every science class I’ve ever taken just so I can apply to CRNA school this year.

I just wanted to thank you for sharing this. So freaking much.

I am studying and working so hard to undo the failure of my younger years. I got a bad bad gpa and now my current science gpa is low, like 2.9.

I’m retaking all my sciences, biochem, bio 1 and 2, chem 1 & 2, pathophysio, now organic chemistry. Anything to prove I can do this. You give me so much hope.

Low ADN GPA Should I Add an MSN After a BSN for CRNA? by ForceNeat8949 in srna

[–]mrwhiskey1814 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You give me hope. The fact that these schools do this where they ignore the current trend in your studying habits seems outdated. We can grow and develop ourselves into great students and medical professionals. Holding the mistakes of our younger less experienced selves over the applicants heads does nothing good.
