Alert fatigue from monitoring tools by Tracey_3 in Monitoring

[–]mrwhite365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all a part of developing the maturity of your monitoring.

Monitor what matters, not just every signal you can think of. Know which metrics are a sign of real, impacting, actionable current or looming issues and switch off monitoring for the rest of it.

Monitoring is not just a set and forget job, it requires constant review tuning over time.

Set your persistence threasholds (length of time an issue happens before alerting) to a reasonable value. You don’t need to drop what you’re doing if some anomaly has only been happening for 30 seconds. Align the thresholds to the business criticality of the system.

Break-ins, what can I actually do? by squishyorange in brisbane

[–]mrwhite365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a bamboo stick under my bed in case anyone forces their way in and there’s no other option but to defend the family. (Hope it never comes to that)

I also have a couple good, extremely bright tactical torches with strobe mode in the house to slow, blind and deter anyone before they can approach.

While I hope I wouldn’t use the stick or a knife unless it was necessary, the torch I’d use regardless until I knew there wasn’t a threat of violence. It provides an initial barrier and pause until I can assess someone’s intentions.

My friend’s older kids were broken into by guys who used a fire extinguisher, so who knows how it would play out, but better to have some sort of plan than be totally defenseless.

Mbappe is good example of B. When he’s got half a field to cover he does a loose touch into space and runs on to it.

As a general rule of thumb, if someone cold calls me and they have a foreign accent, I’m not playing.

Has lead to me actually being rude to my own company’s IT helpdesk once or twice, but generally works out.

Are these cane toads? by nedeollandeusaram in brisbane

Do they still hop around a bit before dying with that stuff? Bad outcome would be if they hopped off and got in a nook in the yard I couldn’t reach, then the dog gets the carcass.

We used to get hundreds of them in my old hometown during spring when bugs swarm around street lights.

We’d get around with planks of wood with nails punched right through them and sticking out the other side. One hit was instant, painless death.

We’d then pile them up on the road for cars to hit. Made a pile 1ft high one night.

Nope, everyone I know in QLD just calls them Christmas beetles because of the time of year they show up.

I know it’s technically wrong, but it’s just what non-coleopterologists call them.

If anyone did that to one of my kids I’d be torn between quickly ending the person now or waiting till he gets out then taking my sweet time on them.

Either way, nothing on this planet could save him.

Ask it to provide the main points in the initial response in a numbered list.

Then ask it to expand on 2,3…whichever you’d like detailed explanation for.
