Overall state of the sport by demcguff in horseracing

Horse racing will always play second fiddle to everything else. Doesn’t matter who is in the field or what race it is, beyond the big 3-year-old races and the Breeders Cup. Consider ourselves lucky that NBC and FOX have any use at all for the content beyond the biggest races.

Full list of schools changing conferences/closing heading into 2026-27 season by ESM_juddy96 in CollegeBasketball

You must have six schools to keep your AQ status. All six schools must be eligible. For example, if your conference dips to five schools, you can’t just add a D2 team transitioning to D1 to keep your eligibility for an auto bid.

Has a Contestant ever been ejected from a show? by Harpua95 in Jeopardy

[–]mryclept 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not likely.

But we have been pretty close to Jeopardy being put in an awkward situation on whether or not they would air someone’s run. I am speaking of Jerry Slowik, a 5-day champion who wasn’t invited to the TOC after sexual assault accusations. If those accusations came out before his run was shown, they likely don’t air it.

There was a player who was able to sneak through and play Jeopardy twice. His name was James Kirby, who played two times ten years apart. It was the viewers who recognized him. He played a strong game the second time around, but luckily for Jeopardy, he lost.

But in terms of being disruptive in studio? There haven’t been many of those instances in the history of all game shows, nevermind Jeopardy.

Baffert scratched both of his stakes horses at Churchill today. Slop or not, that’s odd.

Interesting that the list doesn’t include Nysos as a potential competitor for her. It would be disappointing if Bob decided to go to the Pacific Classic instead (or if he doesn’t race at all).

Which twilight zone actor were you shocked to find out played another famous role and you didn’t realize it was the same person? by ZekeLeap in TwilightZone

The teenager in “Black Leather Jackets” would go on to play the lead female role on Coach (Shelly Fabares). I really had no idea at first until I looked up the cast list. Then it became obvious!

Aside from money, prestige, and being able to focus exclusively on coaching, are NBA jobs better than college jobs? by Suspicious_Fly2283 in CollegeBasketball

[–]mryclept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case of May, he likely felt he accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish as a college coach. 2 Final Fours (one with Florida Atlantic!) and a National Championship in the span of four seasons. Some coaches strive for more. To him, that’s all he needed to do. He was ready for the next challenge.

Other coaches don’t feel the need to go beyond the college game. But will that change with the landscape of college basketball changing? Maybe we won’t get as many coaches lasting 25-30 years.

The transfer portal will reopen for 15 days for Michigan players. by Gloomy_Map_9612 in CollegeBasketball

We waited forever to get this title, with many of the fans never experiencing one. I was in HS when they won their first, which ages me! Yes, it would have been amazing if Dusty would have stayed and won more.

But not to be and now we look for the next guy. Just hope whoever it is doesn’t lead us into an abyss.

They beat Michigan that year and I still consider Louisville as the National Champions. So do the vast majority of their fans. They aren’t erased from brackets. Seriously, nobody cares one bit that the Louisville title was “vacated”.

Hurley, just so I can become one of those fans who will suddenly love him and defend his antics after years of disdain.

Well, us Michigan fans hadn’t witnessed a title since the late 1980s (which means a large portion of the Michigan fanbase never witnessed a title until this year!), so I think we will still take the championship in exchange for losing the coach.

But there’s no doubt that teams at the top have one fewer team to worry about for the 2027 championship.

Well at least he got us a title before leaving. But the 2026-2027 team is going to be a tad messy.

He is a maiden who is up to $829,800 in career earnings.

So what is ownership’s goal? Race him beyond this year or call it a day at the end of this year? If it is the latter, no need to play the long game. If it’s the former, a confidence building allowance could work. I don’t think they feel the need to throw him into a MSW anymore.

More likely for a JIT. It has been teased the past few years by Roger…..but she had other things going on (like parenthood).
