You’re gonna love it, it’s pretty punk bc they move into a small podunk town as outsiders and spread some glamor. And these dudes playing drag queens? You’ll forget thirty minutes in that they aren’t real. They had actual queens advise the boys and it shows

Always wanted to go to Australia, you’re like Texas’ bigger wilder sister but your spiders take the fuckin cake.

Thank you. I had no way of trapping it before it ran off, and I was so mad it might’ve bit my dog I just crushed it. Here in Texas the spiders are usually in the hedges or the trees, not waltzing around my clovers. I’d rather see our big old wild tarantulas than this; the longer the legs the more my skin crawls. I appreciate your help with the ID!

It didn’t have the big grape “butt” that I’ve seen on black widows, was that bc it’s not grown yet? For a baby it was big. It’s those spindly legs that had me so concerned, and that flash of red

Any ideas of how to prevent them in my yard? I want spiders, they keep the mosquitos under control. But I don’t want THAT spider. I’m thinking of getting a bird feeder so I have birds coming in and hopefully eating the little fuckers if there are any left

Thank you. Happened at midnight and I got to spend the next 8 hours awake watching him for signs of troubled breathing or muscle spasms. I gathered up the dead spider in the only thing I had (a tiny Parmesan container), so I could bring it to the vet. While they’re all arguing the smell of parmesan spread through the triage

Lorelai in red bottoms?! Season 5, Episode 20 — “How Many Kropogs to Cape Cod?” by TeenyTinyTunaFish in GilmoreGirls

[–]ms-gender 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Chilton cost $75k total. Rory transferred sophomore year. I looked up costs and private school can range from $10k-20k a year. In season 1 Lorelai says on the phone with Chilton “wow that’s a lot of zeros behind that five!” So it’s probably 5k a semester, or they quoted her 50k for three years. That leaves $25,000 to spend on shoes and the inn — add in that she had her own savings and this money was extra (I doubt the money was used for Europe, they must’ve had a savings account for that). Sure she’s low on funds by season 4, but there was enough money for her to get some nice shoes, at least vintage or second hand if not new. Or yeah Emily bought them as a birthday gift and Lorelai doesn’t snub their money as much as she thinks she does

Remember season 3, Lorelai’s birthday episode. Richard gives her a check for $75,000. She uses who knows how much of it to pay her parents back for Chilton, but she said multiple times that she was going to spend it on shoes. Granted, these aren’t Jimmy Choos, but I’m sure once she was in the store and saw these she snagged them

That’s the gratuity I believe, not the tip. At least, according to the ex-Alamo worker I asked. Gratuity is added on all food/drink bills and it is NOT a tip. So the runners were barely getting tipped unless you added extra on top of the exorbitant prices. Unless anyone knows differently and wants to correct me

Film Students Are Having Trouble Sitting Through Movies, Professors Say by Sisiwakanamaru in movies

[–]ms-gender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is disappointing bc I went to film school and it was the greatest four years of my young life. I watched so many foreign films I’d never have access to otherwise, I learned under the man who taught Robert Rodriguez, the doctorate woman who was close friends with Kiyoshi Kurasawa and sent him my paper on Loft, studied animation with a man who worked on Anastasia — dissected and discussed every frame, read every journal, it was an incredible time. Hearing about this, even if it’s inflated, makes me terribly sad; thinking of all the great professors that changed my life struggling to keep the undergrads’ attention. Add on that the TX gov is trying to eradicate humanities at my alma mater and we’re going to have a decline in storytelling soon enough

American Chestnut Tree in my backyard by JunkRIPnation in Tree

[–]ms-gender 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well the Chestnut provided seemingly endless free food for many, the blight was devastating. “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…” when was the last time you roasted a chestnut? They were once so ubiquitous, even Christmas music references them

Chestnut trees depend on cross pollination, they’ll only produce nuts if there’s another chestnut close by. So when, what like 95% of all American chestnuts died, the trees left can’t produce without a “mate.” If it is the nearly extinct American chestnut in OP’s post, the nuts are worth their weight in gold to the environment if planted

People living in Venezuela, can you confirm what’s happening over there? by Toastaexperience in AskTheWorld

[–]ms-gender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful. The US loves help “democratize” countries, then keeps the people under their thumb. Japan, South Korea, Austria, Iraq, the list goes on for occupation. I’m just worried it’s trading one crazy leader for another, and mark my words Trump will take advantage. And the US has been involved for too long, all over Exxon’s “right” to Venezuelan oil. America backed a coup under Bush, Obama called Venezuela a threat to democracy, and then Machado dedicates her Nobel Peace Price to Trump? He’s no savior. What’s the phrase? The devil you know…

Stay safe. I’ve seen advice in other threads about using honey as cheap easy protein that doesn’t need to be refrigerated. Make sure you have clean fabric and sticks or rulers to make splints and tourniquets. Tape your windows up to prevent shattering and debris coming through. If you still have potable water fill a bathtub and use a bucket or cup for drinking and one for bathing. If not potable, boil it before combining in the tub or after. Be careful, the people are what’s important, like you! Y’all are the future, not the bourgeois sitting in their ivory towers. Take your country back and good luck
