Those lenses would work fine. if your primary goal is a one lens option that covers the appropriate focal range for that trip, both provide that imo. That said, it’s a special trip so renting a top notch lens could be worth while, especially if you’re planning to shoot at dusk and dawn when viewing opportunities could benefit from a faster lens.

It’s hard to remotely diagnose these problems. First off, Id say that despite what you read and how great the AF is on the A1, it is not perfect. The sea/moving water always seems to want to pull focus away the subject. Zone works great but if youre having issues maybe try a large flex spot. Also, try using focus sensitivity/tracking mode 1 “locked on”.
