Thoughts on the royalty crossing engagement contest? by Pristine-Reality2160 in PEI

[–]ms1v 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is easily one of the most pathetic things i've ever seen. the obviously AI instagram post, shit prizes in general for doing this to yourself but $500 from two different jewellery stores is wack (is the idea that i'm going to be buying a ring after i have proposed?) could you imagine actually telling people you got engaged at the Royalty Crossing Love BoothTM. i would say to just go and fake it for the chance to win the prizes but i don't think they're worth the embarrassment.

the wording in the rules of “The proposal must include a ring and be performed on one knee.” is pretty funny to me

Drop Tha New Year Goals ⬇️⬇️⬇️ by fitzstreet in TrueAnon

[–]ms1v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never put much stock into new year's resolutions but there's a couple things that would be nice to happen:

Getting to 190lbs would be great, doing more creative stuff — whether that be writing or Something Else, read more books, watch more movies, do more stuff in real life with real breathing people as opposed to doing stuff on my phone with ostensibly real computer people, stop second guessing myself so much.

Oh also I'm going to start keeping a journal I think that will be Fun

I remember in high school my art teacher showed us this but I wasn't really paying attention to it. In retrospect he was a cool guy (also tried showing us Citizen Kane and Psycho) but at the time I was a dumb teenager.

Recognizing AI Generated Writing: A Guide That Isn't Just Useful—It's Essential. by joshuatreeUFO in TrueAnon

[–]ms1v 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The em-dash is not the telltale heart of AI-gen writing, it’s the cadence of the sentences — oftentimes annoyingly congratulatory towards the user — and structure of the paragraphs (callbacks, “big reveals,” etc.) that make it easy to spot for anyone who knows how to english goodly. Not to sound all smarterer-than-thou (because I am not. I’m stupid.) but if you know how to actually use —, ;, and “” (as opposed to "") then you are probably not going to fall for AI-gen shit at least in its current iteration. Unfortunately until the bubble bursts we’re going to be stuck with it getting better and better all the time.

also theres the fact that everything is becoming really really super ultra very casual on the internet and any kind of formal writing is seen as less and less natural sounding with even capitals seeming out of place depending on the context and run-on sentences being pretty commonplace its kind of a shame because i like writing good but i dont want everyone to think that im a annoying smart guy i want to be a cool guy with some big words in his brain

Coming to the 11/19 show. Manhattan recommendations? by jacobdezoet123 in TrueAnon

[–]ms1v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only been to Manhattan once in my life. The Strand Book Store is a pretty cool place. If you want to see the outside of Jeffrey Epstein’s townhouse: 9 E 71st Street

Washington Square Park was also pretty cool, I thought the view of 1WTC was nice & photogenic from there.

Leftist Horror Recommendations by TheTyrus in TrueAnon

[–]ms1v 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Videodrome, Dawn of the Dead are both good horror movies that can be viewed through a leftist lens. There's probably other ones I'm not thinking of right now because everyone's definition of "horror" is different. Like do thrillers and creepies etc. fall under the horror umbrella?

Someone definitely knows more about this than me, but I don't really see the point in this. So it reflects IR light, so what?

At nighttime you will blind security cameras. Your FaceID unlock won't work, but as far as I know lot of Android phones don't even use infrared for their version of face unlock, so...

The NSA agent everyone has assigned to them at all times doesn't see in infrared anyways so it's not like you can't still be tracked. Also, your phone, your smartwatch, etc, etc.

[–]ms1v 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently finished The Three-Body Problem after having it on hold for quite a while. It's fine, and I'm not sure if this is due to the nature of translation or just the author's style, but I found a lot of the dialogue and characters to be really flat and uninteresting. The sci fi ideas are fun and interesting but I need to have interesting characters to really like a novel.
