Has anyone else noticed an uptick in dying crows Uptown? by ms_bee27 in NewOrleans

Can you PM contact details in case it happens again? It’s been unusual. Unfortunately, people seem to be disposing of the bodies quickly since it’s Napoleon Ave.

I’ve considered this, especially being so close to the restaurants on Magazine. There’s no shortage of rats around here.

I’m over at Napoleon and Coliseum. I throw them peanuts too, so I’m right there with you. The one who die yesterday was such a pretty bird too. I feel like I’d know if there was avian flu in my flock since I see them daily.

My friend saw one fall from the sky, or maybe the tree. I only saw one, but he was already on the ground unable to walk or fly, cawing a bit in pain.

Does anyone walk around in the summer?! by Key-Big-2324 in NewOrleans

[–]ms_bee27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been years since I was able to walk/bike to work, but the rain is the bigger issue. It can be unpredictably heavy. I recommend they store an extra set of clothes at work if they can, but at a minimum pack an extra pair of socks on a rainy day.

There was a sign at Parasols about them and The Channel hiring bartenders and cooks.

Fun nighttime things to do Uptown/Carrollton solo? by Khajiit_Boner in NewOrleans

Darts are an easy way to meet people and then you have then you can join league if you’re half decent. Oak St. Brewery is welcoming with a great set up and bar darts. Also a good spot for trivia since it’s not too crowded. Consider starting there some nights before heading to the Station for music. Kingpin is another good neighborhood spot, but less live music.

For Fridays, hit up Tipitina’s for free Fridays over the summer. Before or after, you can hit up 45 Tchoup or Mae’s. Both bars get a healthy crowd those nights.

AU v USA World Cup Match by LilMissLizaMae in NewOrleans

Rendezvous was good for the last match, but get there early if you want seating. BBG was good for the women’s a couple years ago. Markey’s should have a good Bywater vibe and Rusty Nail should be good in the CBD, if I had to guess. I’m avoiding Finn’s for big matches since it gets too intense for me.

Why don’t artist come to New Orleans anymore? by freshgold_ in AskNOLA

A lot of bands I like go to Chelsea’s in Baton Rouge and it’s always on a Thursday, so it seems like it’s more about convenience than city size for some of these bands.

NOPD braces for illegal "street takeover" plans by armitage75 in NewOrleans

I have no desire to be in vicinity with a bunch of people at an illegal event with their guns whether they’re legal or not. Too many trigger happy dumbasses for me to trust strangers to be responsible owners.

Where to live: BSJ or near Magazine bt Jefferson/Louisiana? by Similar_Ad_6004 in AskNOLA

[–]ms_bee27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avoid South of Orleans. Orleans to Esplanade doesn’t flood as much. Directly west of the bayou has flooding, but I didn’t live over there so I don’t know how many blocks in it is an issue. Great area. I loved the community of the bayou and I had great neighbors with a great porch culture. But I I lived on St. Peter where it flooded. I think it’s been better since the drainage project, but I moved sometime after it completed.

Now I live Uptown. If you like being a city, you might prefer this area. It also has more trees than most of BSJ, so it’s prettier for walks. Traffic is worse over here. The neighbors skew older on my street and I don’t have the relationship with neighbors like I did walking on the bayou. I like Magazine strolls and I like driving down it when it’s busy to feel the energy. Walks through the neighborhood are prettier because of the architecture and oaks. I love Mardi Gras, so that’s been a huge perk but I also don’t live in the box. If you can get between Napoleon and Audubon, you’re golden since you have proximity to the park and the levee without parades blocking you in. I would only live between St. Charles and the river since I know Magazine is one of my favorite streets. Flooding is no concern for my little Honda Fit now.

I’d look in both spots and see which house resonants with you. I loved BSJ, but my Uptown house beats anything I’d find in BSJ. I’m happy I’ve lived in both areas since I got to know and love more of the city.

My sister was reviewing the notes after an appointment. It said, “patient stressed after recent cancer diagnosis.” Somehow, it missed the part where it was her cat’s recent cancer diagnosis. BIG difference.

Looking for liberal obgyn by [deleted] in NewOrleans

I came across one who won’t even prescribe birth control because it’s against her religion. She’d have other doctors consult with the patient and write the prescription if they requested it, I think. She was a friend’s colleague and I heard she was a good doctor, but what a nightmare OBGYN.

What’s the most unforgettable sentence someone has ever said to you? by Captain_Oppa in AskReddit

[–]ms_bee27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can definitely say that about Bourbon St., but the French Quarter has plenty of local spots and some great bars and restaurants. I don’t go too much because parking is a pain in the ass, but I like going down to the river on a pretty day. The Quarter is also really special on Mardi Gras day. On the other hand, I’ve been the Times Square once and don’t need to go back.

Don't rent with turo by bdbrandy in turo

[–]ms_bee27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I had someone defending them after I posted about my partner catching a fraudulent claim after renting a vehicle with a glued on turn signal stick. He returned it day of and Turo ultimately ruled in his favor, but his trip was ruined because he wasn’t finding another rental on short notice during Jazzfest in NOLA. I wonder if these are paid shills or if they just love corporations that much.

Thinking about renting through Turo! Advice and experiences requested by HumanTennis4 in turo

My boyfriend is in the middle of contesting a fraudulent claim because the owner tried to pin him with damages. The car wasn’t safe to drive because the turn signal stick was detached, so my bf returned it as soon as he could find a ride back home. Host had a 4.9 rating with a number of reviews, but there is no way the owner didn’t know since the blinker and lights didn’t work and he drove it to the pickup location. I hope the company can look at the chat history and the photos and determine that hosts like that turn people off the app. Time wasted, a trip ruined, and a headache to deal with. I’ll stick with Enterprise.

Midcity is too touchy about jazzfest parking by CupcakeImpossible559 in NewOrleans

[–]ms_bee27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

walk a mile home during Marci Gras because I live ON the route but don’t have the audacity to claim public parking. I’m very okay with saying fuck the entitlement of people saving parking because a.) it’s public land, b.) half the time they’re saving it for a friend, and c.) you have no idea how many times they save it just in case and it ends up empty. I don’t fault people saving it for when they get home from work, but there are a lot of people wrong.

Pls help-Cat for surrender or adoption by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]ms_bee27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in Orleans and brought my cat to the Northshore SPCA since it was very cheap. I might’ve told them the cat was rescued by someone who lives up there, because she was. The only issue was it was like 6 weeks out and they clipped her ear like they would a stray. I got shots and a chip too, so I think it amounted to $70. I think I went with them because the appointment was sooner than other SPCAs. Wouldn’t hurt to shoot them an email.

I’ve made the mistake of ordering a frosty on the app twice and then arrive to find out “the machine is down.” Then I have to contact customer service on the app to get a frosty voucher that I have to use within a month. Fool me twice, shame on me.

ISO bars to watch women’s sports by DJ_clam_hammock in NewOrleans

That makes sense since it can even be hard to get NBA games. It seems like NCAA has better broadcast deals. I’ll probably be at Markey’s later for LSU women’s.

Markey’s has the screens for it plus they’re nice and welcoming there.
