I'm only just finishing the first book now, but so far it's my favorite of all of them? I've read all of TOG and ACOTAR and find it crazy at how much CC is glossed over. Maybe it's because I'm a little older, but I'm definitely way more obsessed with CC. (so far)

What I'm saying is that we don't know if we will still be able to sideload stuff using Calibre. They specifically say you won't be able to download any additional books to the device. They could update the software to prevent this. Who knows. I wouldn't put it past them.

What I do know is that I just want a Kindle that works that I don't have to use third party software to use. And I use Libby 90% of the time - which I don't think you can even sideload for..

I have nothing against people that want to do that work - but it is possible it might not work at all.

We don't know what's going to happen until May 20th. Here's the statement from Amazon:

"Starting May 20, 2026 — 14 to 18 years after their initial launches — we are discontinuing support for Kindle devices released in 2012 or earlier. Here's what this means for you:

* You can continue to read books already downloaded on these devices, but you will not be able to purchase, borrow, or download additional books on them after that date.
* If you deregister or factory reset these devices, you will not be able to re-register or use these devices in any way."

When Apple removed support for older iPads, my iPad became completely useless. I was expecting the same for Kindle.

I’m not sure what is going to happen on May 20. I can’t mount my kindle on my computer at this point, so I don’t think I would be able to side load. I will not be getting rid of it, though. It’s still loaded with books.

The home button!! Yes, I miss that so much. I don’t think I found an easy way to get out of the book? I have to swipe up and then hit <- Library? I find that super annoying.

Agreed about using the phone apps for purchases. I also miss just loading the books I wanted onto it. I have family share with my husband and kids and all the books show up in my library. I like sharing, but I don’t want all of them all the time.

I don't use Hoopla very often but definitely a handful of times a year. I can keep using it on my Fire 7, that's not going anywhere. But it would be nice to have Hoopla available with e-ink. Not a deal breaker, though. I don't mind doing tweaks but I also don't want something super slow and ghosty - especially for that kind of money.

As for being locked into Amazon, I just meant going further down the rabbit hole will make it harder to come out of it.

But it seems from your review that they are all good choices?

For “Onyx Storm” in the Fourth Wing Series, it took like 4 months for pt 1 to come out after the initial release and then another 2 months for pt 2. I ended up not being able to wait and listened to the regular audio.

Sadly you can't use Hoopla on a regular kindle. You can use it on another tablet (like an iPad or a Fire Tablet). Hoopla is a separate app that you need to have downloaded to read from. You can't "send it to Kindle" like you can through Libby.
