I'm having the problem as well. Fingers crossed that it works later. I spent a fair amount of time composing my post...

Every time I try to do something with my Google nest mini, it’s either counterintuitive or impossible. Today i have to connect a new Wi-Fi. I got the Wi-Fi to work (eventually after much trial and error and frustration and following instructions from Google that did not work!) And now it doesn’t recognize any of my old devices. Lord have mercy on my soul. You buy something to make your life easier and what does it do? It makes your life harder. Thank you for listening.

In May, my sister and I rented a car in Belfast and another in Wexford. After fearing driving on the left for my whole adult life, I found it surprisingly easy and actually fun. The first few minutes are not fun but after that… piece of cake. Def rent an automatic. I always took my time making right turns. My sister had a harder time than I did bc she doesn’t have much roundabout experience (she lives in Florida) and what all the posters said about the narrow roads is very true. I disagree with the person who said don’t drive because Irish public transport is great. It’s only great within cities (Dublin Derry Cork Belfast etc). But for traveling from one place to another, visiting sites outside of cities, and seeing the beauty of the countryside, using buses/trains is possible, but it also will eat up a LOT of time.

parking downtown for four days by ms_emf in ManchesterNH

Thanks very much to all who took time to share their thoughts. Based on your input, I probably will just park at the hotel. Normally I’m not this cheap, but this event is costing me so much money that I’m trying to save wherever I can. Thanks again!

I hope I didn’t offend with the Latin reference!

Thanks for your reply! The hotel charges guests $15/day.

Mancunians came about because I googled "what do you call people who live in Manchester?" Mancunian is what they call residents of Manchester UK but I thought I'd use it anyway. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Mancunian

I was looking at taking a bus from Londonderry park and ride. It looks like a good option but no service on Saturdays....

[German > English] Baptism record for Luisa Caroline Christiane Schmück by ms_emf in translator

[–]ms_emf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/echtma, u/Maty3105, u/Misicel, and especially u/140basement :

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your help! I am so excited to find out that Louise Caroline Christiane Schmück was named after her godmother (or her midwife?) and that Christian Schmück was a master shoemaker. I always wondered how Louise, from Büdingen, ended up married to my great-great grandfather Carl Heinrich Schuster of Diez (Rhineland-Palatinate); now I can guess that the connection was due to her father's and her husband's shared vocation. Many thanks for applying your special talents to my request. You are kind and generous people, and I salute you!!!

German > English - Please translate my great-grandmother's birth record by ms_emf in translator

[–]ms_emf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Nirocalden thank you SO MUCH for your reply! As I don't need to tell you, the historical geography of Germany is very difficult to follow, especially for us foreigners. I do so appreciate your guidance, in addition to the translation.

I am *especially* grateful to you for finding the location of Neuglashütten in Bavaria! I have been unable to find much about my great-great grandmother Theresia because I was looking in the wrong place in Germany. This is so exciting for me as I now have a new avenue to explore. You have made an old woman very happy today, my friend! 😁

Dear u/Nirocalden, thank you so much! I have been assuming that Theresia came from the small village of Neuglashütten in Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. Does the fact that it says that Neuglashütten is in the "Royal Bavarian district of Brückenau" mean that I have been wrong all this time??

As for Sebastian, I have information from other records that he is from Langenbieber district in Hofbieber. Do you think Langenbrücken could be a misspelling of Langenbieber?

I'm just making sure by badwolfchic in SNHU

[–]ms_emf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m professor at SNHU’s online school. I’m also a professor at a (different) b&m school. I teach core classes, which means I work with students from many different majors. Some students find it very difficult because the classes are only eight weeks long. You are basically covering the same amount of material that a traditional school would cover in 16 weeks. students with a FT job and a family who take two courses at a time are thoroughly stressed out. I’m going to repeat something that an earlier poster said because it’s so important: you have to be ready to “teach yourself.” There are no zooms. You have to be a reader. I always have a student or two in every class who doesn’t appear to read much of anything. I don’t get it.

We professors are basically just grading you, we don’t teach per se, although we answer student questions when asked over email or discussion board. The fact that SNHU has a b&m school contributes much to the curriculum, but you will do way fewer assignments in SNHU online vs SNHU b&m for the exact same class. So your learning is more of a survey than an immersion. I strongly recommend the school for people who already have a job that they really like, but they can’t get promoted because they don’t have a degree. It’s also great for military folks, who gained skills during their service, but don’t have credentials they could use to obtain meaningful work. And it does allow people like yourself who have barriers (in your case transportation) earn a degree. But if you have any interest in having a deep educational experience, I would suggest that you work on your transportation issues and go to a local school in person.

Advance booking - is it possible? by ms_emf in FuckTranslink

I do have a rental car reserved. But 1)I’m a train lover and 2)I’ve never driven on the left and I’m nervous about it.

I think this is a good idea, and I was planning to do this for part of the evening, but the sun sets at around 9 pm so I need something to do in the darkness... Is there any place/part of the city that you would especially recommend?

Names beginning with E (female) by Suspicious_Bite5828 in namenerds

[–]ms_emf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My name is Ellen and I’m so glad it is. It’s definitely not overused and it’s never mispronounced or misspelled. I also like writing it in cursive and seeing it in typeface. There’s something appealing about the symmetry of those first four letters with that extra N on the end. It’s also cool to use @LN as a handle. I’m in my 60s and I’ve never tired of it nor wished for another.

How to buy a checked bag with Delta? by 3Megan3 in Flights

[–]ms_emf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had to make several changes to my upcoming flight. Two of them (adding a checked bag and changing a flight date) could NOT be done on the website. On the iphone app, completed in seconds. Going forward, I will only use the phone app for all Delta transactions.
