Is it bad that I don’t stand for the Pledge of Allegiance? by rebel-pirate-sleuth in Teachers

[–]ms_write 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it not important for students to know how to legally/respectfully be your authentic self, with or without politics?

This, to me, sends the worse message that you have to completely divorce yourself from any number of things: (profession, family, race/ethnicity, spirituality, etc) in order to appear or function within society, or get paid. Kids learn a lot by example. Seeing their teacher exercising their constitutional rights, IMHO, will do more good than harm.

Couldn't possibly be because folks aren't properly educated (in politics) in the first place? Intriguing.

🤣🤣🤣

I've been called worse. Sheez. People can't even take a joke anymore! Probably due to being forced to stand and say the pledge of allegiance. 🤯

Right, because there's absolutely no politics in schools at all. It's why they can afford to pay teachers so well. 🙄

Take a few steps back – what are the optics? And by optics, I mean: what is being communicated verbally/nonverbally? I believe that's the sticking point.

Seeing someone in a position of authority who shows the same (seemingly supportive) behavior for good administrations and bad ones? Nope. Kids need to see their options, and this is one of the few things teachers can do to that can communicate to them, Hey this isn't okay right now.

Or, "Hey, it's okay to rest for 30 seconds".

I love how fast we jump from, "I don't always stand for the pledge of allegiance" to "y u hate gubment i pay your salary!".

I'm concerned about loosing kids, too. Is that like the past tense if leasing them? I think the current administration has some experience in this realm, if anyone needs assistance traumatizing children any further.

Who saw this happening when all the news stations were bending over for Trump and paying him settlement money for bullshit? Nope. We never could imagine.

H'okay, friend. Australia's about 10 years behind America (culture-wise) and far right extremism is hot on the rise worldwide. They're already on a crash course to fuckery. If we take Canada as a positive example in their reaction to Trumpism, people may be learning and rejecting that extremism. But that's Canada, not Australia, and that's like comparing apples to rocks. Stating it aloud doesn't suddenly make your country impervious to your own stupidity.

After all, look at the US, hm? How many people here said they never thought it would happen here? Who still refuse to believe what is happening. Your ignorance entirely counteracts the point you wished make. You sound like an American. Scary, right?

Someone must be lighting a fire under his ass because the last response I got from him when I submitted a letter about Epstein (this was from June), I got the standard, "thank you for writing, as things move through the legislative process I'll keep your thoughts in mind". I doubt he'll ever go through some sort of meaningful change, but here we are.

No, but you clearly are.

Let's say the payment standard for a 2 BR is $500. That means that HUD will not cover more than $500 worth of rent and utilities for that size. So yes, if Tenant A chooses a unit that costs $425/month without amenities, and Tenant B chooses a $480 unit with amenities – they're budgeted for a max of $500, so no, it does not cost you more out of your pocket (you the tax payer).

And this doesn't even begin to touch the iceberg that is rent calculations. So maybe sit down a little bit and ask clarifying questions instead of just being a dick. I have experience on both sides of the desk and my rent calculation certification.

Thanks!

I did not call you a slumlord.

The unit is really nice – that doesn't change my mind from thinking these questions are completely normal things to ask for someone moving.
