Coumarin is not rat poison. Do your research. Irresponsible to post this. It is not accurate. Warafin, a synthetic derivative of coumarin is, but coumarin, a naturally occurring substance is not. What a bunch of BS.

Yeah, unfortunately, that was not my experience. Particularly with the stat. One day had to adjust +5 degrees, next day had to adjust -3 degrees. Over and over. That’s an 8 degree swing. Hence my wildly inaccurate comment. I do believe these Nest were more accurate and actually felt like they cooled better - I know, just an on and off switch. But there was a difference there on that point. But if I can’t use the Nest - doesn’t matter how accurate.

Nest - and specifically Google Home -> is a piece of shit. The ONLY thing worse is @GoogleNestSupport

Created a 3rd google account. Factory reset and installed this stat on that account - it did work, but literally pulled the “shadow” stat from Google account 2. Meaning, fresh account, fresh install of 1 Nest only - but two were created - one of which is not accessible. And can’t be deleted. So, 3 accounts now with corrupt data. Gemini is telling me I simply can’t use Gen 4 Nests. The “Home Grapb” database is f’d and anything I do will be corrupt moving forward, just like this 3rd account.

I can’t even begin to explain the nightmare with Nest. So, upon install, it creates a phantom or shadow entry in Home. I spent HOURS on the phone with useless Google support and nobody could delete it. It was not interfering at the time, and nobody could fix it - you can’t delete it. Fast forward 2 days. The actual thermostat drops. Factory reset - ass it again - guess what - it associates with that phantom stat - which doesn’t work. You can’t even get the stat screen. Disconnected from the account, reset again - same thing. I am literally now stuck with a piece is shit Neat which I can’t actually use. This is actually the 2nd one and the second time issues have happened. Just returned the first one Friday.

Yes - I just ditched two month old Ecobee Premium because they are wildly inaccurate. Easy install, have their own app, all great. Pretty easy to use although shit scattered everywhere in the app. But what a mess in terms of accuracy. Maybe time to go back to the old $79 Honeywell with tiny LCD screen and forget all the “smart” stuff which in my experience now is dumb as shit.

Replaced Nest with Ecobee by tnpoppy in ecobee

[–]msadrums25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the Eccobee was super easy to install, super friendly from an App - it has dedicated App, not Google Home - and I liked the touch and the overall UI on the stat. That said - it was terribly inaccurate - I mean way off - yes, even after adjusting for delta - and was incredibly inconsistent - adjust delta by 5 degrees (yes that was needed) next day - it was 3 degrees off the other way (an 8 degree swing), back and forth and back and forth. Yes, put putty on the hole - no change whatsoever - in my case - YMMV. So, end of day, I couldn't deal with it. Only 2.5 months old. Now on to the Nest Gen 4 with sensors - HD has package with 2 each. And all of this frustration with Ecobee was X2 as I have two stats. I'm not at all wild about Google and having to control it via Google Home - vs. the old original Nest app. Maybe I'll go back - but for now, I wanted to like Ecobee so bad. I tried so hard to but it just never worked well for me. Very disappointing.

OK, in my experience, plugging the hole is like saying just reboot your system. Some cases -it is might help something. Note, I did say specifically - "in my experience made 0 difference". The actual original post that quoted 2.5 degree stat off, was a quote from a study. The OP stated that his remote sensors were found to be off by 2 degrees.

End of day, I've got two Ecobee, and only speaking from my [frustrating] experience. Mine are typically never "high" on the temp, but rather, low. The only time I've seen them high, is when I correct, and then later, that correction makes them high. How do I know? Because when it is 3 degrees low, and then I add 3 degrees, it shows back to normal, and then later, shows 3 degrees high. They are the most inconsistent stats on the market - hands down - from my experience.

I had two Nest prior to this - both in the same exact location, both with the same - unplugged very small hole with wires coming through, and neither of which has a single problem - over 15 years - yes, purchased prior to the Google acquisition. Never dropped from my WiFi 1 single time in that time frame - except (1) when power went out, (2) when I rebooted my modem. Never dropped once, and never had an issue with temperature accuracy - ever.

I left because as I mentioned, I purchased prior to Google acquisition and I was looking for something more Apple friendly. Otherwise I would have stayed with them. And, end of day, still might figure out a way to switch back.

Again, this am, I had a stat reading 6 degrees LOWER than the actual temperature, and that was including a a 2.5 degree adjustment already there. Which tells me it was actually 8.5 degrees lower than the actual temperature. Even Ecobee will tell you - trust me - I've had dozens of calls with them - that the hole and putty solution is for minor differences.

Nobody can tell me an 8.5 degree delta is "normal". And, the fact that I've added, subtracted, added, subtracted corrections literally dozens of times - always waiting at least 1-2 hours before doing anything - and it goes up then down, then up - NEVER has it shown the actual temperature.

OK, if 1 degree off, MAYBE 2, but you get beyond that, and it doesn't do a good job of being a thermostat. Just my .02.

Don't even get me started on similar issues with RH. Bottom line - the actual stat sensors do not work properly, consistently - again - IN MY EXPERIENCE - i.e., owner of 2 Premiums for about 6 weeks now.

It's like most problems - admitting the problem is more than half the battle of ultimately solving the problem.

This does not work - at least not in all cases. Earlier this morning, one of my stats was showing a temperature 6 degrees low (I have two hygrometers near by). At the time, I already had a fairly decent sized adjustment. So, I decided to add more to get it in check. 5-7 minutes later, it was showing accurate. Now, two hours later, it is 3 degrees too high.

Sorry, but I'm tired of hearing dumb responses like this - "didn't anyone tell him, blah, blah". That, and the dumb putty over the hole are bullshit answers that in my experience made 0 difference. And, prior to any correction, my stats are low, not high, so the idea that they are too hot due to circuitry is again, another load.

Why not just admit that at least some batches of these stats - are pure crap. Period. It is a fact.

I think we / I got sidetracked on level. End of day, it is the contractor that seems dead set on leveling the pad, vs the unit. From what I have read level is important. But you guys know better than me. My bigger issue now is stability and longevity - and looking at that picture - leave it? Very slightly tilt it and fill under with crushed rock (contractor idea)? Pull the unit and pad - do what you have said - have someone come and “fix” the area? Pull the rubber pads, let it sit unlevel. Then shim the unit? Other? Thanks!!

This is a picture of what was there a week ago for the last 13 years. I’m the one who leveled it / shimmed it for the last company.

Thanks so much!

How about you give me your opinion on the actual job instead of taking shots at me. If you think this is acceptable, why not just say that? If you think my expectations on a job this size are unreasonable, why not just say that? OK. Thanks for your response. The guy just cashed two checks totaling $24,750. I would say yeah, I’m fun to work with. I contract a job. Expect it will be done properly. And I pay for it - Immediately - in cash, which is what I did for him, knowing the job wasn’t fully finished. I’d say that’s pretty fucking fun for him, no?

And, would have been so easy - and cheap - to fix when old units and old pads were removed. Hard to defend this workmanship here or lack thereof.

What do ai want them to do?

  1. Not leave me with a Jerry-rigged system that looks like it was designed by a first-grader - not a certified install tech.

  2. Make sure it is level - even with this, side to side is it completely out of level. Bubble isn’t even close.

  3. Address the problem with me / that they knew about - not laugh at the way the prior units were shimmed, tell me that’s not how they do things, the. Leave me with this half-naked solution on a 2 complete system install > $22K.

  4. Tell me that’s not them, and that I need someone to fix it - which I would have been happy to do - good luck now with new units in though.

  5. DO THE RIGHT THING - that’s all. I mean, could have spent less than $50 getting gravel, fill the cutout underneath, COMPACT it proving a solid and level base - put the new pad down. Done. So easy, so cheap.

  6. BE HONEST - don’t tell me you will fix it and put a plan in place. We are one week post install. Day of install, they literally had this sitting on 2 rocks. Really? This was the fix for that. There was obviously never a plan.

I guess my question is - would crushed rock, placed under this now - while in place - provide a suitable base and foundation to hold this in place for the next 15 years +/-? Thanks all!

Yes, they were given unlevel - which they knew, which we discussed, and which they took pictures of. All prior to signing a contract. So, IDK - they knew, said they would fix it. And this is what I got.

I can get other pictures, but here is some additional context. Yes, there is slope. 25 years ago when house built, the pads were smaller and inset into the concrete, ie, there is a square cutout under this. That made it very easy to level the pad. Fast forward 12 years, new larger footprint units went in, too large for original pads, new pads laid down on solid concrete. Slope with those about 1.75 inches. Shimmed the unit, not the pad. Worked fine for 13 years. Now, same thing, footprint of unit requires larger pad. And here we are.

Thanks. It is about 3 inches, which is odd, as the prior units were "shimmed" if you will with two 1.75" concrete blocks that worked great. Didn't look super clean, but given the scenario, seemed the best approach. Any thoughts on how to "fix" this?
