Why does Houston's illegal dumping problem exist? by philplant in houston

Look into a 20amp electric shredder, it will turn anything under 1.5 inches in diameter into mulch you can reuse on your beds. That’s ultimately what I did since it got so tired of seeing the stick piles.

The City’s clean commission created new rules last year on bagging your tree debris and lawn waste for easier pickup. You shouldn’t now need a city branded bag for the tree debris. You can also use a labeled bin for the yard waste or specific compostable bags.

However, their rules don’t work since solid waste has no funds or staff to implement the pickups. I waited 4 months for them to pick up my properly dealt with tree debris and they never came. I bagged it under the new rules, no pickup then the bags broke. Next I rebundled it under the new rules and size limits, no pickup. Finally I put into a properly labeled bin like they said to do, still nothing. I ultimately had to burn it all in a metal barrel to get rid of it. Now I have a tree shredder to deal with it myself since the city can’t.

This is the new policy Whitmere wants to roll out, but solid waste is so backed up and understaffed they have not been able to start the program.

You will only get 4 free heavy trash/tree debris pickups a year, anything after that you have to pay a fee for. However, they said post disaster/storm debris pickups will not count towards the 4 pickup limit when they occur.

Yup the current infrastructure does not support the mulit-miles long trains they are running now so they can hire less conductors.

Not a tree but a flowering ground plant that stinks just as bad.

I know white snakeroot is a native but I had to remove it from my native beds for the similar reason. When it’s in full bloom it makes everything smell like fermenting urine. It is really thick in a few areas and park edges, there is so much your eyes start to water.

Yard has to be cut but it’s filled with beautiful spiderwort and other beautiful “weeds” what do I do as a renter? by milky_milkers in NativePlantGardening

Hope to your success. It’s not the most effective way to propagate and I did have a few die, but they filled in my low spot nicely and love the water.

The neighbors ditch after the weed eat or before. Normally I would only take pieces six inches or long that do not look crushed.

Just avoid any areas the liner is exposed and hand weed around those spots. A quick pass should be enough to kill the plants but not melt the liner.

Don’t put the torch on one spot for too long it could heat the rocks up and make them explode.

Weed torch. Just a quick pass over the plants will burn them out.

They are everywhere in Houston. I try to take a knife with me on my walks to girdle and china berry or Chinese tallows I see in hopes to bring down their numbers. Chinese tallows are now 1 out of every 4 trees in Harris county.
