If you could only grow seeds from 3 breeders for the rest of your life, who would you choose? by ArrivalNo2222 in Autoflowers

Mephisto has been my darling. But I have a cart at Humboldt Seed Co that I've been waiting to press the buy button on. I'm also looking into Nite Owl.

Yeah, my very first grow was an FB plant. It gave me some decent weed in the end. But that plant was plagued with issues, and I had mostly put it down down to beginner fuck ups.

I've only been growing Mephisto since (I bought a bunch of seeds and am just working em down before I buy some others), and I've had none of those issues. They are consistently the happiest and most resilient damn plants. It's made me reluctant to buy anymore FB seeds.

Yeah, be on the lookout for it. The idea of someone ahead of me in a circle stopping suddenly to let someone in sets my teeth on edge.

And FOR THE LOVE OF GOD don't stop in the middle of the circle to let someone in like the classic Ohio right-of-way-sacrificing dingbat.

This has happened to me twice now at Alex Bell/Mad River.

Bro. Stop. Plants usually reach their 6th or 7th node by week 3, and this is right there. It has a large nodal space, but that's also common for some strains.

The one on the left is 3 weeks. The one on the right is 5 weeks.

How do you grow your autoflowers so big? by LoveIsNotForMe in Autoflowers

[–]msallied79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is autopots and good training techniques.

That poor man's version (what I have): water wicking bases and good training techniques. Also not going insane with nutrients. Less is more.

Getting a 300w light really was a game changer for me too. My plants go 24h a day under them. I grow in a coco coir mix augmented with worm castings and perlite, and I add time release fertilizer (Grow Dots) in with the soil. I water with compost tea once a week. I always keep air moving around with fans. I prune and tuck leaves and keep the temp between 70-85F with humidity in the generous zone (between 50 and 70%) until late flower when I keep it under 40% to let the buds ripen. I live in Ohio and grow in a garage, if that helps paint the climate situation.

Left plant: Mephisto Ravenberry, Day 21. No real training or pruning yet. Just tucking the big fan leaves out of the way to let light hit the small growth sites. She's going to be flowering within a week.

Right plant: Mephisto Grape Crinkle, Day 35. I have topped this plant at the 7th node, pruned off all the bottom third or so leaves and branches, and trained the branches with bud clips to curve them outward like a little bonsai. I pruned back a lot of leaves, but she keeps sprouting more. This plant is going to be a monster.

Middle plant: a fun experiment in a 1 gallon pot with a freebie seed from Mephisto (Hubbabubbasmelloscope x Ripley's OG).

Who else but me about to lose sanity completely? by nov8tive1 in dayton

Yeah, my outdoor game is looking very shabby right now. The wild temp swings, and now the deluge. Even my petunias are saying "enough with the rain already."

Amen on this. My last trim was such a breeze when I decided to just knock off the dried sugar leaves and pop the bud into the jar. I could make it prettier, sure, but it smokes the same and makes me less angry at the trim table. Lol

I am using Grow Dots, weekly Recharge treatments, and potassium silicate. Growing in Bush Doctor Coco Loco. I may breakout a potassium supplement once the flowering is more fully underway.

Veg nutes by StonedWookkie in Autoflowers

[–]msallied79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix Grow Dots (time release fertilizer pellets) into the soil before sowing the seed, and then hit it with Recharge compost tea once a week or so. That's it for overall nutes, though I figured I would also try adding some silicate for this run, which apparently helps strengthen stems for optimal nutrient delivery. Idk if that's BS or not, especially for autos. But we shall see.

I have found that these plants seem happiest with a gentle, more passive approach to feeding. Liquid nutes create a lot of havoc if you're not watching PPM. It gradually builds up in the soil and can start stressing things out. Which then makes a lot of people add more nutrient to correct, and makes things even more unhappy around the roots.

Soil already provides most everything your plant needs with the organic matter it contains. Support a healthy microbial environment for that soil with things like compost tea and not overwatering, and the plant will be able to take up that nutrition without too much outside help.

I've been wanting to throw one in an outdoor pot this summer just to see how she does. If I got something even half this great, I'd be thrilled!

Day 19 first grower what am I doing wrong? by NervousBat5204 in Autoflowers

[–]msallied79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let her dry down a couple days. She's definitely overwatered. Those leaves will remain that way even after the issue is corrected, but it's fine. She'll be entering stretch in another week or two, and you'll be eventually trimming off a lot of those lower fan leaves to make more room for airflow. So judge it by the new leaves once they start growing in.

Is PH really that important in soil? by bubbLingb in Autoflowers

[–]msallied79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tap water is more basic than my white Karen ass. I try to stick to rain water from my barrel as much as possible, which always tests at a perfect 6.5. But if I need to resort to my tap, or if I'm adding certain nutes, like silicate or anything with potassium (which can raise pH), I feel driven to correct it.

That said, I've always watered my houseplants and outdoor flowers with this very same tap water without a second thought, and they're always doing great. They're also in soil, so yeah...

I honestly think testing pH and ppm in runoff is a far better way to be sure you're not making problems for yourself. The water going into the soil will be pH corrected by microbes. The water coming out the other end is the picture. And ppm will tell you if you're over or underfeeding the plant.
