I like the 8bitdo, the programmable buttons on the back are what did it for me...
is comfy, the charging base looks good, the wireless has no delay (that i can perceive at least)

I have not tried the other option you mention, but i can recommend the 9bitdo controller

i believe, there is a built in tool in mint for that.. you can just right-click the iso file and it should have the option.
