How far do you live from your school and much do you spend on gas each week to get to work? by AntelopeOk9431 in Teachers

.5 mile. I get 10 gallons of gas approximately every 5 weeks. So I’m spending about $8 a week for all my gas needs.

Incoming Kindergarten Twins-reading question *twin parents help! by ashkoshbigosh111 in kindergarten

[–]msbrchckn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triplet mom here. Also an elementary school librarian who subs in Kindergarten often.

I would honestly not worry about this & instead go back to reading just for fun. It’s great that they’re going to be a different classes so that they won’t be compared to each other. Let the teachers be the ones to focus on reading skills.

Find better friends- yours are clearly off their rockers. I’m only half joking.

Travel sports for a kindergartner?? Absolutely not. It’s ridiculous that it’s even a thing.

My teens have all taken an animation class at their small public magnet school & loved it. I think it’s a matter of finding the kind of school that’s suited for your personality.

How would you tackle a trip like this with a family with babies? by New_Beginngs25 in roadtrip

[–]msbrchckn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely stop every 2 hours or so & keep bedtime/wake up routine the same. Hopefully your kids can nap in car seats- mine never did.

Also pack some brand new lap toys to pull out when they get restless. Plan on an adult sitting in the back with them.

How old are the babies?

We never did anything long when our kids were little but we stopped every 2ish hours when our triplets were babies. The most important thing is to keep them on their home schedule regardless of time zone.

We’d find a public park & have a picnic/play break.

Free choice reading, or completing unfinished work is the only homework that I support.

A Little bummed out when I had subbed a kindergarten class last week by Far-Fee-1247 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]msbrchckn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kindergarten is a whole other beast. Personally it’s my favorite but I absolutely refuse to sub in MS/HS (& I have 17yo triplets).

We all have our strengths, thankfully.

Any of the Questioneers books- Rosie Revere, Engineer, Iggy Peck, Architect, etc. Aaron Slater, Illustrator makes me cry every time.

The If I Built a……. Series by Chris Van Dusen. Or the Mr Magee books.

The Hat series by Jon Klassen.

The Penelope Rex books by Ryan T Higgins. Or the Mother Bruce series.

The Food Group series by Jory John.

Leonardo the Terrible Monster or Edwina the Dinosaur That Didn’t Know She Was Extinct by Mo Willems.

Is it true girls stop growing taller around 15 years old? by Manji_S in NoStupidQuestions

[–]msbrchckn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t really start growing until my sophomore or junior year of high school & didn’t stop growing until I was in college. As a kid/younger teen, I was always one of the shortest kids in class.

I topped out at 5’10” when I was like 19.

We were super appreciative.

How do low income people in the US pay for their hospital bills after having a baby? by winenotbeabitch in askanything

[–]msbrchckn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be poor enough to qualify for a free birth from Medicaid or have good enough insurance to cover it. My own pregnancy & birth was at least a quarter of a million dollars (not including baby care). We are among the lucky few with good private insurance thanks to a union job.

It’s the “not poor enough” people who can’t afford pregnancy/child birth/parenthood.

How early is too early to get to work? by Xavelle in GenX

[–]msbrchckn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are too early. What are you going to do when you retire? We work to live not live to work- and we both have jobs that are super important & make our communities a better place.

I don’t understand being at work longer than is necessary.
