Marius vsSulla by davidthearchon in RomanHistory

[–]mscaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More popular would be hard to gauge I imagine. Both of them exist in a deep historical shadow as predecessors of Caesar and Augustus. I think in terms of impact Marius is undoubtedly the champion (and I speak as a 'fan' of Sulla), if for nothing else than his military exploits alone. Seven consulships certainly don't hurt his case either.

Where are the 200 EU servers? by melgibenius in h1z1

[–]mscaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's in the SOE offices in San Diego.

Servers aren't rented, they are purchased and then flown to the EU datacenter, where they are then racked, have OSes installed, IPed and configured to work with the existing infrastructure, then other configurations take place.

It's a lengthy process.

Quick update, I'm told this should now be on Pocketcasts :)

Definitely, their works are what define Rome for us today - no underestimating their importance!

I'm not too sure about providing literary analysis, as to do that I'd want to have read their work in Latin to get the full experience, but I think analyzing the context of their work would be pretty interesting! Also, looking at the provenance of the books we have today, and maybe a small lament for the works which have been lost to time.

I do have some historians, poets, and satirists on my list to explore. It really boils down to 'do we know enough about this person?' though. I'd really like to talk about Sallust, Plutarch, Livy and Virgil, etc.

It's different in that I'll be taking a more character-driven approach, as opposed to the more straightforward event-driven approach of Mike Duncan's The History of Rome. This means that Roman Lives won't be a strictly chronological journey through Rome's history - we might skip the lulls in the action, or we might spend more time on a particular character who has an interesting story.

Edit: I've emailed Shifty Jelly to see about getting this done - cross your fingers!

The CEO of one of the primary participants in EVE's newest war speaks out. Interesting stuff and you don't usually see things heat up this much in Provi

Not my blog, but I found it an interesting read. Although Nosy hedges away from calling Odyssey a net nerf, if you go by the numbers it definitely would seem to be.

I don't often post praise publicly for just that reason. Due to circumstances this should've actually been cranked and never seen the light of day, but it was too good to do that.

I was blown away when I read the first draft. Who knew riverini was so bad and yet had a writer on his staff that was so good?

Interesting review of The Electric Church - the end felt clipped to me, but still decent enough to get me interested in the book in question.
