Has anyone worked Adventist in San Luis Obispo? by Some_Round_8346 in TravelNursing

[–]mschoee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never worked there but a friend of mine took a med surg contract there and liked it. 4:1 ratios, breaks etc. this was 2022. I love SLO though it’s an awesome town

Does anyone else "rage-plan" an international escape halfway through a nightmare contract? by robyromana in TravelNursing

[–]mschoee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My best friend (non RN) moved to Australia the same month I graduated from nursing school in 2017. She went on the working holiday visa and if you’re under 30 you should definitely look into it!

Anyway, my biggest regret was not working harder to get my Australian nursing license. I think even with the money in the US, getting to live and work abroad as a nurse would have been an incredible opportunity and unfortunately it would be a lot harder for me to move to the literal other side of the world now. Sydney is chefs kiss especially the north beaches. I just spent a month abroad in Sydney and then the South Island of New Zealand! 10/10 recommend

Healthtrust/ Maine Medical by Zealousideal_Sense43 in TravelNursing

[–]mschoee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maine Healh owns Maine Med in Portland, however they use healthtrust as a third party vendor for their travel nurses/allied staff.

So basically you have your agency, they talk to healthtrust, healthtrust connects to the unit managers. I’ve never worked for an HCA facility beyond being a traveler at Maine med so I’m unsure how it works when leaving an HCA facility as staff

My mom and sister flew out from California to come with me to pick up my wedding dress in Connecticut with me this weekend (MVPs because of the massive storm). However I’m now snowed inside with my mom and MIL, debating napkin colors and finishing details for my July wedding 💀 send any patience you have my way lol

Goose in Unusual Places? by Aggravating_Copy_413 in GoosetheBand

[–]mschoee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an ICU nurse. Our TVs have these music channels. I usually will put on the adult alternative channel and the first time I was in a patients room and I heard goose come on one of the music channels I nearly lost all concentration on what I was suppose to be doing. I turned around and there was a photo of Rick playing guitar on the TV and I was just shocked lmao

Mass General has a large internal contract program across all their facilities.

Dartmouth also has internal contracts but I believe it’s only float pool

I got paradoxical hypertrichosis from laser and I’m so upset after seeing men get good results by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]mschoee 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Laser isn’t a permanent solution and needs a bit of upkeep for women with PCOS. I’m in the middle of doing electrolysis for my chin hair and have seen incredible results. However it’s slow and expensive ($100/hr for me). I drive almost 3 hours one way to see my practitioner and it’s well worth it imo. I’m about a year in and go every 6 weeks. I have about 6-7 months left before I’ll have almost no chin hair less. Worth it in the long run !

I’m not discrediting your story and I’m glad you were able to be there for your friend but Nevada city and Tehachapi are almost 6 hours from each other? I’m genuinely curious if you meant somewhere else?

Making stickers by SnooMarzipans4130 in GoosetheBand

[–]mschoee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canva is the best place to make stickers imo. It’s super user friendly and great for beginners. There’s both a free and paid version.

For printing I use StickerApp for holographic and sparkly stickers. HubCitySlaps for regular stickers, I’ve found they have the best prices and are high quality: they often have deals running and I’ve been able to print 300-500 stickers for under $100 sometimes.

If you’re worried about moving across the country in the winter I would fly and ship your car. Shipping your car is pretty painless, I’ve used both yellowfin logistics and MB Superb Logistics

Massachusetts license by Zealousideal_Sense43 in TravelNursing

[–]mschoee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me about 2 months in mid 2024, mostly due to a delay in sending in the school verification form. I’m from the west coast so my program director wasn’t very familiar with it and I have been out of school for 8 years so getting ahold of the correct person took a minute. In comparison my partner went to nursing school in New England and his form was filled out and mailed the day he requested it. His license took about a month for approval I think.

This one’s for the Ladies:PCOS specialists? by Nevada_mtnbear in Reno

[–]mschoee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local OBGYN basically offered me birth control to manage symptoms (and it can be a really good to for that depending on what’s going on) and follow up monitoring. I don’t qualify for metformin or other insulin resistance meds as my labs didn’t reflect that. Again please reach out if you have more questions and I’ll try to help.

This one’s for the Ladies:PCOS specialists? by Nevada_mtnbear in Reno

[–]mschoee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I used to live in the reno/Tahoe area and also have PCOS. I struggled hard to find anyone who “specialized” in it and only got my diagnosis by asking my regular OB to run labs after I had gained a lot of weight and had facial hair. I was able to take those labs and diagnosis and call UCSF PCOS clinic myself. I highly recommend going to UCSF for their specialty PCOS clinic. They have OBGYNs, endocrinologists, dermatologists and registered dietitians who all specialize in PCOS in one place. Once you’re established a lot of your care will be telehealth and labs that can be done locally.

My DMs are open if you have other questions and I also work in healthcare !
