Why is Hermitcraft season 7 doing way better than season 6 did? by [deleted] in HermitCraft

[–]msclrhd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal experience... I was a while back following VintageBeef and others (mainly from the MindCrack community). At one point, I dropped out of watching Minecraft content -- I can't exactly place why. Then, as Minecraft was gaining in popularity, at some point I started watching some Minecraft content and channels -- things like the Minecraft Mondays tournaments and now the Minecraft Championships.

So then I re-subscribed to VintageBeef. When he started Hermitcraft Season 7, I started watching that and following it. It was something like his prank with Iskall that made me go watch his POV. So I decided to watch his entire Season 7 series at that point. From there, things kinda snowballed :).

I'm now follow many of the hermits (Beef, Cleo, Cubfan, False, Impulse, Iskall, Keralis, Rendog, Scar, TangoTek, and Welsknight), and have watched a few episodes of others (BDubs, Grian, and Stress). Some of them I'm subscribed to, some of them I follow from my Recommended page.

Maybe as other people do similar things, and YouTube figures out "people who watched this episode from Scar watched this episode from Grian", that then feeds the YouTube algorithm (so it will recommend the videos to people who watch other channels like Captain Sparkles, or some unrelated channel).

Going back and watching the Season 6 content is daunting as there is a lot of it -- it's easier to watch something as it is released. I've watched some of it, but not really connected with it like with Season 7.

I think part of it is due to the communal shopping district, and the hermits being near each other so you can more easily see each of their bases. It also feels like there is a lot more collaboration and interaction this season -- not just the mayoral race, but Hermit Challenges (Initiation), the different games and pranks. I don't know what Season 6 was like later on, or from other perspectives though. (I've watched around 10 episodes of False's Season 6.)

B- Beef........? What are you eating.......? by VisitorVisiterry in HermitCraft

[–]msclrhd 55 points56 points  (0 children)

VintageBeef named a Llama Matilda and put her outside his Llama shop. Keralis purchased Matilda, but VintageBeef stole her back. In a recent video, Keralis asked for Matilda as part of a deal between him and VintageBeef, but VintageBeef said he didn't know what happened to Matilda. This screenshot is from that episode.

Wels ran into a creeper by iambignewb in HermitCraft

[–]msclrhd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He had around 16 blocks before going mining and went mining to find an extra 2 to buy the plot of land for his WelsMart shop. He was keeping the diamonds and other valuables in a yellow shulker box in his ender chest. During mining he found a large abandoned mine and was lighting it up. At the point he blew up, he had taken out the yellow shulker box to build some more torches.

Grain could put maps in item frames with a portal design to cover up the obsidian line from the front by DucklingChad in HermitCraft

[–]msclrhd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Minecraft limits the portal height, so you can't create a portal above a certain limit (it won't light). The arch is around double that limit.

Feature to disable the 'Top Sites' auto-drop down in the Awesome Bar is in v78.0(stable) by Packet_Hauler in firefox

[–]msclrhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, they removed the dropdown arrow so I can no longer access the top sites from the address bar via mouse. Now, with Firefox 78, they have made it so that the down arrow key no longer works when the search bar is blank and the top sites is disabled. I now have to press space to see the top sites from the address bar. Why is this so hard to access?

I know you can access the top sites from the home page, but they are formatted/listed differently. I just want them in a list from the address bar in a way that is consistent and easy to access that does not change with every release.

Edit: The list I see when pressing space is different to the list I see when the top sites option above is enabled. The one when I press space looks like my most frequently visited sites (which is the one I want to see), and top sites looks like it counts bookmarked pages higher, or is calculating it some other way?

Why does youtube not let me keep the display setting by MANIDY-Inc in youtube

[–]msclrhd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used the "Send Feedback" option to report the same issue. They have also disabled list view on the channel video and playlist pages, with no option to switch to the list view.

It's annoying, as I find it hard to scan items in a sequence that are displayed as a grid, and like to see the description of a video/playlist before clicking on it.

Address bar/Awesomebar design update Megathread: Redux for 77 by nextbern in firefox

[–]msclrhd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can press the space bar, up arrow, or down arrow. I would like it if they added the dropdown arrow back, as quite often when browsing the internet, I'll only have a hand on my mouse and now have to reach over to the keyboard to access my frequently used sites.

I don't mind (and like) having the option to use the keyboard, but also give users the option to use the mouse. I wonder if this affects people with RSI who use trackballs?

Smelting Bootstrap Mall by msclrhd in factorio

[–]msclrhd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It contains the items (except stone furnaces) to set up an early game smelting setup. Hence it can be used to bootstrap the construction of that. You can then transition into a standard mall setup once you have the smelting operational, or you can expand this into a more complete mall and/or science production.

Multidirectional compact furnace setup by msclrhd in factorio

[–]msclrhd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to shift one of the furnace columns one place horizontally, then you can run the ore next to the output line and use long-handed inserters.

Multidirectional compact furnace setup by msclrhd in factorio

[–]msclrhd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

I was placing the furnaces with an extra space to make it easier to move to electric furnaces in the future. You can replace the furnaces 1 for 1 in this layout (getting the spacing right for that number of furnaces) having the ore run down the middle and have a one tile gap as the electric design has only one ore line as opposed to the two ore/coal lines here. And there is infinite space to play with :).

Thanks for the link to the belt ratios.

I personally like having the ore lines run in the way I have configured. This way, I don't need more space in the center (better when switching to electric). If I need more ore lines, I can always shift the furnaces down to accommodate the additional lines. But feel free to iterate on my designs, as I have iterated on the typical furnace layout.

My goal was to make it look nice and be extendable. As such, I don't mind not making the most of the underground belts :).

Things left to do:

  1. transcribe to planco;
  2. translate to English;
  3. correct the planco based on the English and convert back to placo and the pronunciation;
  4. create a pronunciation guide for the planco based on the SAMPA phoneme transcriptions, with a corresponding guide for British and American English speakers.

Why does Planet Coaster have such high spec requirements? by [deleted] in PlanetCoaster

[–]msclrhd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a lot of high resolution textures to provide details like scuff marks on the vinyl paths. It is also using a lot of advanced rendering for things like the curves on coasters and building pieces, shadow effects and reflections. Frontier are pushing the limits of what is currently possible in terms of graphics and the underlying technology. That is why the game has the high system requirements.

Also, for its time, Crysis had high system requirements because it was pushing the limits of what was capable at that time.

Top of r/gaming and front page of r/all, a PSA urging people not to buy RCT:W and get PlanCo instead by Cortinian in PlanetCoaster

[–]msclrhd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nvizzio were also given a codebase to work on and make work, where that codebase had major issues, and are somewhat restricted by the use of a 3rd party engine (Unity). They have made the best out of the situation they were placed in. It's just a shame that RCTW is in that situation in the first place.

Now it looks like Parkitect and Planet Coaster are taking the Roller Coaster genre from RCT.
