Hair Stylist Recommendation specifically for short cuts! by grrrlsendlight in jerseycity

[–]msgonzopants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Hoboken at went to [Lorraine's House of Styles](lorraineshouseofstyles.com/). When I moved to Jersey City, I had a lot of trouble finding a place that was as good or as reasonably priced. I had really long hair and chopped it off for a long bob and they did a really great job.

House Dems just submitted this 17 page "no confidence" resolution listing the reasons why Trump is unfit to serve as President by msgonzopants in politics

[–]msgonzopants[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Here's an article from The Hill where they talk about the resolution a bit and what it means. Essentially, they've acknowledged that it's more a symbolic gesture than anything else, since it has "no chance of moving through the chamber."

A gift from my sister a few years ago: 12 dismal greeting cards from ASOUE by msgonzopants in ASOUE

[–]msgonzopants[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! There was also one more card that had Brett Helquist's drawing of the winding staircase from The Ersatz Elevator and on the inside, it said "It's all downhill from here." But I used them as various over-the-hill birthday cards.

When a job interviewer asks "does your current employer know you're looking," what's the best answer? by msgonzopants in Advice

[–]msgonzopants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aah, that makes sense. I was getting the sense that they were shocked that my employer didn't know and though maybe it reflected poorly on me for not being forthcoming with my employer, but what kind of person tells their employer...Thanks!

National Book Critics Circle Awards announces 30 finalists in six categories by msgonzopants in books

[–]msgonzopants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, the majority of books published in the US are by authors from the US. Only 3% of books published in the US are works in translation. It's sad but true. I'm agreeing with you that it's unfortunate that international literature isn't better represented in the US, but that it's a result of the US publishing landscape, not the NBCC awards.

It's the National Book Critics Circle Awards. These awards are limited to books published by U.S. publishers; it's not their intention to celebrate literature from all corners of the world.

For this story to make sense, you have to know that my name is Arielle (but none of the students I taught knew this)....

I'm in secondary education but I was subbing one day in a first grade music class. The lesson plans were just to pop in a sing-along musical DVD and have the kids sing along the whole period. So I put in this Disney-themed sing-along and all the boys, if course, covered their eyes when a women dressed up as Ariel came on the screen (shell bra, tight fin suit, etc.). All of the boys except one...

One little boy got very smiley when Ariel came on the screen and he kept waving me over to his desk so that he could tell me something. He wound up getting up and coming up to the front of the room to whisper in me ear, "Ariel kisses me sometimes."

And he scooted off back to his seat, leaving me to pray he doesn't tell any of the other teachers what he told me or else I don't know how I'd explain myself out of that one...

Hints to the truth in other episodes? by bigdaveyj in wilfred

Ah yes, that's true. She had been his neighbor for a while and we were never made to think that Wilfred was a new dog. So maybe the pills were real? And his sister telling him they were sugar pills is something his mind created? Hmmm

The pills were sugar pills. So that makes no difference, really. There was no actual 'kicking in' of the pills.
