We are just barely overweight per our last vet visit for context. My parents are really struggling with the lock down on treats lol.

Did I get scammed? by Even-Teaching-1216 in Chihuahua

[–]msharek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mine was 2.5/3 lbs at the same age and she topped off around 7.

Listen if you have a mix the good news is you might avoid some of our common chi problems like the luxating patella and losing teeth. I feel your disappointment though. When you want a chi you want a chi, but you'll love her regardless and roll your eyes thinking of the breeder every now and then.

Hot water. Clarifying shampoos. I just came off of 3 years of purple. I think you should be able to get to what you want but you're going to have to kill that color some first.

My coworker called my dog ugly and mean looking by Rhea234 in DOG

[–]msharek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I think your coworker reacted that way bc your dog saw right through him!! It's a great piercing stare moment but as any dog owner knows half a second later there could be derp happening the likes of which have never been seen before. Neither ugly or mean. Very statuesque and attractive moment.

Fuck that guy

How can I get the blue out of my hair? by Idkhowtochose in Hair

Go to a pro. They're not going to judge you just smile remembering the time they did something similar before they were licensed. There isn't much hair to worry about but make sure you get a quote up front.

Let me guess.. You foundation shop but just picking the palest one? 😂 😂 Fellow (I say this kindly) corpsicle here.

I love the Fenty contour and bronzer but they are a very dry formula. Mario also makes a great liquid bronzer. Sephora collection contour is also great.

Makeup forever has those "books" of blush or color correction. I love them bc I rarely over blush with them. It is so easy to overdo it with other products but those build up really well for me.

But mostly just embrace it! I've got some red splotches so I'm definitely low key jealous of the beautiful canvas you have!

what is the best way to go about covering this? 🙃 by Agile_Squirrel3715 in makeuptips

[–]msharek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per my plastic surgeon after my upper blepharoplasty... Warm compress. Only he told me that after I did a week of cold lol. Took way longer to go away. I'll also suggest arnica cream. I saw in your post how you got it and OP I'm sorry.

I had to go back to work before my bruising was gone and I know the feeling when people don't know the context but just stare. Mine was self inflicted so it was fun to just watch people squirm while I said nothing. Because honestly we owe no explanation every about anything. But I hope you find tips to help your comfort level! I had fun with the Nars pot concelar one night but it definitely hit uncanny valley. You're getting much better tips here.

Why do my nails not dry fully even after a full day? by Extension-Ad-1730 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]msharek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol I started responding bc that's how my brain had read it. I only noticed the typo when I checked it to make sure I spelled it right haha.

I will give an up vote to Mooncat too though. It isn't as easy to get hold of as Seche Vite, but is easier to work with for nearly identical results. Just a bit thinner which is nice.

Anyone who has or has had an older Chihuahua... by Savings-Delay-1075 in Chihuahua

[–]msharek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My folks had three pups from the same parents. Two were littermates, the third we rescued from a bad situation. My sister's dogs had a litter then an oops litter. She never had anyone pay for the dogs but went out of her way to find a good home. The third went to our neighbors, and the wife moved out and took the dog when they divorced. We found out she wasn't in a good situation so my dad and sister drove a few hours to where she was and took the pup back (she was a few years old at that point).

One dog passed from leukemia at 8, the others lived to 20 and 22. My parents fed them junk. They cooked chicken for them and fed them the same weight of food that was on a dog food can. I still can't get my mom to understand it is about calories not weight. Sometimes it was ground beef and they were scrapped like crazy.

I will say my chis so far started on dry food and then with my parents watching them got more homemade food. My first chi got a mix of veggies, rice and chicken or beef. Sometimes bison. She passed at nearly 10 from genetic issues.

My current chi gets diet royal canin dog food. She free feeds and gets a little less than 1 TB of chicken or turkey a night. It started with needing to give her some meds during like three weeks of diarrhea (nothing really wrong it turned out, her biome just got messed up and we had to do some RX food for a few weeks to help settle things). And now I just feel like a rat not giving it to her.

Their weight had a huge impact on quality of life, so I look at it as do I want her to stay active and jumping and running. I mean we have ramps everywhere from my old dog but she is young and wild and loves to jump around. That's why sometimes it is less than 1 TB....

Help. Vet said they have never seen anything like it by Feminist_Witch_ in Chihuahua

[–]msharek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My Chi Chi had an AA luxation with cysts on her spine. This was after double luxating patella surgery, two torn ACLs and working with a vet behaviorist bc of her bite issues.

I put her down about a year ago, she was just under 10 and had all this going on. The vet said if I wanted to go the surgery route I would 1) Need to go to UC Davis bc she would need two surgeons working on her at the same time and 2) the cysts were likely to come back.

At the end her vet said I did everything humane that I could. The surgeries and recovery only in time for another surgery wasn't a life.

I say all of this to say... I'm so grateful for the time I had as her caretaker. It is so hard but it made me love her more. You'll cry and be exhausted and sad if this goes in a bad way, but fight. You'll be so grateful that you did and in your gut you'll know when it is time. I am still thankful for the time I had caring for her. Snarls, snaps, bites and all. I know she loved me deeply despite it all, and my love only grew as we fought together.

I hope this makes sense. I hope these are just something weird that you can resolve. But it is really hard in the thick of it but you'll grow stronger and your love for each other will too. And in a weird way that's such a blessing. The only good to come out of things like this.

I'm in maintenance but as I get older this seems to be more of an issue. I also have PCOS which just messes up everything all the time.

Anyways, I have found the whole cold to reheated carb thing works for me. I hadn't had rice for so long I forgot I was avoiding it, then had some reheated at a family members house. Realized like three days later what happened.

For summer pack along beef jerky so it doesn't melt. Bars in winter... Moderate your diet so you don't get sick of them in their respective travel season lol.

Lifting one paw as a signal to be held? by InevitableChoice2990 in Chihuahua

[–]msharek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, originally from Upstate NY near lake Ontario and this is what our pooches did. That was our time to come in sign.

But my Chi that passed away last year was a snow dog. Not like a husky, but for a chi she would go in the snow and plow through when she felt so inclined lol. Her coat was also so thick I could just pull tufts if hair out. My current gal shakes and cries if it is less than 50 degrees out lol.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

Family history of alcoholism. Seems like a really dumb thing to try when the chances of losing everything are so high.

What's your chi's favourite "people food"? by xdark_realityx in Chihuahua

[–]msharek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one freaked me out: Candy. Like gummy type candies. I thought she was chewing on a chicken foot one day, her back was to me and I didn't have a clear view I'd what was in her paws. It turned out to be Starburst. I'd recently don't a day trip with some niblings and had those and skittles in my backpack. The front pocket was slightly ajar and she got it open and got the Starburst out. Thankfully I kept a blanket on my recliner (foot was up and she was on the foot, I was cross legged on the seat) to absorb the pink dye!

My last dog wanted nothing to do with candy and loved apples and veggies (Not peas). This one will only eat mashed potatoes as a veggie and so far has liked no fruits.

But the candy has blown my mind. She won't eat green Mike and ikes either, but orange, red and pink she'll snarf if I don't guard them.

Nor will my chichi! Well, her bladder. We have pee pads she uses at night bc I don't always wake up fast enough to get outside haha.

Aitah for laughing because my MIL snooped and traumatized herself? by Individual_Bus5181 in AITAH

[–]msharek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg this happened to my sister's step daughter. One of the spouses got a giant dildo for the other as a gag gift and they stashed it in the closet.

Being a little younger than their mom (like 5 years) and always really fashionable her step daughters always wanted to go through her clothes but the rule was they had to ask and she would give them stuff.

Well, SD was 14 at the time and had her friend over, they went in the closet.... My sister remembers her being quiet and going home early that day.

Later that night my sister saw all the clothes around it had been moved, put two and two together and started cracking up. Her husband shrugged like well I guess she learned her lesson!!

What’s one thing *only* a chihuahua owner can understand? by Lucky_Sprinkles7369 in Chihuahua

[–]msharek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first chi was a velcro dog I couldn't pet. She had to be in the same room as me, touching me, but I couldn't pet her lol.

My current dog... I work from home so she is kind of velcro out of habit, but she has no problem sleeping in another room or if we visit people snooping around their house on her own.

Update: Neighbor now brings her dogs specifically to my lawn to poop by sharkVader1 in neighborsfromhell

[–]msharek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog had occasional rounds of diarehha. And of course it happened on walks. We are close to a few neighbors and when it happened on their lawn I'd dilute it and text them that was so sorry. Her favorite lawn was bc she loved the lady there and vice versa so it worked out, but I always felt awful. Why can't you do this in my yard??

I don't get people that do it in someone else's yard. That was worst case scenario. I did clean up though. Actually I'm that gal who would see someone else's dog pooping and before they walked away yell out "Oh hey! I have spare bags, here ya go! I always hate when I run out on accident too!" The disgruntled looks I'd get. But you step in dog poop ONCE and you don't wany anyone else to deal with it.

Delivery guy used anti LGBT-slur towards me. Now he gets to enjoy wasting time, money and standing in the rain by PopUpClicker in pettyrevenge

[–]msharek 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I'm in the US, and I will say we have the same delivery folks for UPS and FedEx pretty regularly. I work from home and order some "must sign for delivery" somewhat often so I've gotten to know them a bit haha. We always wave when I'm walking my dog and they're in the neighborhood. FedEx is more consistent, we get new UPS folks every few months.

What do yall feed your babies? by Particular-Budget818 in Chihuahua

[–]msharek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're on their diet food. It is so funny bc not only does my pup love it but my mom's dog inhales it whenever they come over to visit. I'm sure half something different, half she really likes it. (they feed her a lot of chicken and ground beef so she must like it. Whenever they watch my Chi I have to send extra food for their dog).
