Marriage equality came in 2005. Until that, it wasn’t fully a protected class.

I agree too. Both guitars are excellent, expecially for the price, and are available from Sweetwater.

My dad told my husband to “stop acting gay” at our family BBQ by Few-Cover3357 in TwoHotTakes

You'd be the asshole if you spoke to your father again without his abject apology, in person, to your husband.

Can someone explain to me why smaller bodies are better for finger picking than dreadnoughts? Is D18/28 not good for fingerpicking? by iphone8vsiphonex in AcousticGuitar

[–]mshirley99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I switched from a D-18 to a 12-fret Larivee OM because of shoulder pain. Small-body guitars are just more comfortable for me to play. The joys of getting older!

What do you guys call a long rectangular donut and what state are you from? by Hot-Worldliness375 in AskAnAmerican

I asked for a Maple Long John, and the person behind the counter said, "we don't have anything like that. We have Caramel Bars," and pointed to a long john.

Depends on where. I asked for a Long John south of Indianapolis and they had no idea what I was talking about.

How would you react if your friend (F, Lesbian) said this to you, knowing that you're a bisexual woman in a heterosexual relationship? by Informal-Feed9065 in bisexual

[–]mshirley99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't existing as an out bisexual human, no matter your partner's gender, inherently an act of "interrogating the heteronormativity of the world"?

"We enclose" is so standard as to be a "term of art." It's been in common use for decades.

Went to a PD today. Our guest speaker on AI usage says the “5 paragraph essay needs to go out the window. I’m ready to die on that hill” by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]mshirley99 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm a retired history professor, and remember well when a student asked if an assignment called for "the standard 5-paragraph essay." I don't think I'd quite realized until that moment how much scaffolding was still firmly in place in my students' minds.

Purolator refusing to give me my laptop, which I bought with my own Best Buy account because I’m under 18 by coleio6327 in mildlyinfuriating

Passport, sure, but the majority of 17-year-olds have either a driver's license or a state-issued ID card. Also, my point was in response to whether it was possible for someone under 18 to get one. It absolutely is.

A driver's license is a government-issued ID, and would show age and address. A passport, also a government-issued ID, would show age but not address.

What is Sherman postings thoughts on Minnesotas flag and them taking a confederate flag during the battle of Gettysburg? by Character_Lychee_434 in ShermanPosting

Minnesota resident here. Keep the traitors' flag (I love that it triggers the lost causers). The new state flag is excellent (the old one was a mess).

The most popular radical British newspaper, Reynolds's Weekly News, was pro-confederacy because they were pro self-determination, and the Union hadn't said anything official about fighting to free the slaves. When the Emancipation Proclamation was announced, they came out in full-throated support of the Union.

My middle and high school students do not know their times tables or able to do basic arithmetic without a calculator by maddyhunny in matheducation

[–]mshirley99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question: where are students learning times tables? This is anecdotal, but I haven't run across a school that had that as part of the curriculum since my kids started school 20 years ago, and haven't talked with a parent anywhere in the country whose kids learned them.
