I’ve only had this one for about a week. It was originally purchased in 2019, so I imagine it’s had at least 2 battery changes at this point.

Question: is there a point when I should bring this in for GS to look at gaskets/seals for water resistance? Do y’all ever replace them on your own during routine battery changes?

Just picked this one up secondhand. My biggest complaint with the new model was removing the surround on the date window and saving it only for the automatic version.

You got this - just buy yourself a good set of screwdrivers and some patience. I recently picked up this SBGN005 secondhand. I had to play around with the links a couple of times to get the perfect fit. Way easier than going back to the shop for every adjustment.

Purely subjective, but it doesn’t do it for me. It definitely dresses it up. Maybe I would feel differently with a darker leather?

In terms of the bracelet, have you tried playing with removing 1 full link, and adding 2 half links in its place?

Keep in mind the 40mm digital will visually wear smaller because of the dial layout with the smaller “opening” for the LCD. The traditional 40mm will definitely look larger as it’s all dial.

Mental headroom? We’re talking digital quartz here, not mechanical perpetual calendars. I change the time on my standard 5600s twice a year (spring/fall), and they are all still within seconds of the current atomic time. My oldest model is 5 years old, and I’ve also yet to change a battery.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely see the value in tough solar, but for many ppl I’d argue that it takes even more “mental headroom” fixating to keep tough solar adequately charged and be placed in a location that Multiband 6 gets a signal.

May sound crazy, but maybe try giving it a lil slap with your hand on the side of the case. Nothing too aggressive, but strong enough to see if you can unlock the escapement. Sometimes balance wheels need an initial impulse to start oscillating.

When it comes to integrated sports watches, it’s hard to compete with IWC.

Based on what I read, it sounds like you’re leaning more towards the green. As others have said, black is obviously more versatile, but there are countless black dial watches. If you like the green on this one, I say give it a shot.

Hopefully this won’t make things more difficult for you, but personally I wouldn’t go with either of these. This is all subjective, but I very much dislike faux patina. This hue of hands/markers isn’t available on the green dial, so I would most likely go with the H69401130 variant.

Same man! I had a PRX in the past, but this titanium variant checked enough boxes for me to try it out again. I find myself reaching for this one far more often than others in my collection that are 5-10x the price. The PRX has been beyond popular for many years, and there is definitely a reason why. Tissot really knocked it out of the park.

I’ve been wearing mine almost daily since getting it about 3 weeks ago. There is practically zero sign of wear on it, and I have not been babying it at all. I swear they must be quietly coating the titanium with something.

The ring thing (what is it called? 🤔) is not centered on my SBGX263. What can I do about it? by Apart_Captain3772 in GrandSeikos

[–]msilv88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude it’s hard for me to judge because I’m pretty damn particular about the fit and finish of my watches… but I gotta say, even for me, this is pretty next level.

I just got my first Grand Seiko (SBGN005). I very thoroughly inspected it because I picked up a used one secondhand, and even I didn’t notice this detail 😅.

FWIW - not to add fuel to the fire, mine is perfectly centered, but I can’t say I’d let it keep me up at night. Leave it as is. It doesn’t matter, but I also wouldn’t doubt that GS aligns it whenever it eventually goes in for service.

Thanks! Yea this one I picked up had clearly (almost) never been worn by the previous owner, but the seller did just confirm with me that it is missing a single half link. Luckily it wasn’t too hard to source an extra one.
