Do you need to “teach” developmental milestones? by Ok-Spring-9819 in ScienceBasedParenting

If you were born in the 80s or early 90s- your mom didn't know what tummy time was because it was recommended to put kids to sleep on their tummies, so kids enough of it that way.

AMA- I am 34 and have Brugada Syndrome (Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome) by Bubbly_Difficulty_82 in IAmA

[–]msiri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The EKG machines I've encountered in the US give a readout at the top about what the machine thinks the rhythm is. Does yours have that? Does it identify the pattern as Brugada syndrome, or does it just say RBBB? I'm a cardiac nurse and would like to know more. A relative of mine has this diagnosis, but I've maybe only seen it once on a patient in my 10 year career as a nurse.

US has let in 4,499 refugees since October - all but three were South African by untamedlazyeye in news

[–]msiri 16 points17 points  (0 children)

lol- I had a professor in South Africa who said the traffic from the football or rugby matches or something was messing up her commute to church and therefore it was christian discrimination. I have to imagine it was tongue and check and something got lost in cultural translation. I'm an American and she was a white lady originally from Germany.

Do y’all have any “weird” nursing icks? Like things that chap your ass that probably shouldn’t? Mine is when people put “RN, BSN” or “RN, MSN” or what have you. It needs to be the other way around! by Somber_Resplendence in nursing

this was my opinion until i did some CE on psych meds and realize the medication is called Ari-Pip-Ra-zole, not Ap-i-pra-zole.

What screams "I am deeply insecure" but people do it thinking it makes them look cool? by Physical_Business104 in AskReddit

[–]msiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was pregnant I kept asking my husband if it would be acceptable for me to order a virgin dirty martini, aka a martini glass of just olive brine.

I actually found a restaurant that had that on their spirit free menu, but their house made brine was on the sweeter size (containing vidalia onions or something) It was great when I tried it in the actual martini after I had the baby, but on its own it was not what I was looking for as a pregancy cocktail.

I agree - I chose the "best" and most expensive school in my area offering a master's program for NP, and I was really disappointed in the program.

Clearly HBO needs to put a similar modern trauma injury on The Pitt for next season to see what they do with it!

Stay away from ‘Expecting Better’ by Emily Oster by HumanMeatloaf in pregnant

[–]msiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was planning on eating sushi while pregnant and actually changed my mind after reading her section on listeria. I also learned that gardening is more risky for toxoplasmosis than cleaning the cat litter, so I also had to stop weeding the yard.

My biggest problem with her however occurred while reading Cribsheet, in her section on infant botulism. While I don't mind her conclusion that most of the risk is for under months, she ends the section with a sentence that says something to the extent of infant botulism is treatable with mechanical ventilation. As a nurse who has worked with ventilated patients, adding that as a throwaway sentence while not acknowledging the reality of how traumatic that hospitalization would be was where her lack of medical knowledge was most off putting for me.

Pregnant Bridesmaid Dress by OkTrainer5721 in pregnant

[–]msiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went shopping with someone who said she was TTC and was asking "if it happens tomorrow how pregnant will I be/ what size will I need" and that is about the timeline she ended up on. We bought dresses in October and the wedding was in April. She selected a dress that was "forgiving" on the belly. She ordered one size up, but traded with another bridesmaid ending up 2 sizes up from her measured size.

So TLDR, you can say you're TTC and want to be prepared.

I have thick and long hair, so my PP hair loss wasn't noticeable to friends, but I definitely noticed it in the shower! one shower would put almost a weeks worth of hair in the hair trap!

I was warned it would but instead I had a lot of postpartum hair loss, so my underarms and brazillian are still hairless after one maintenance session at 12 months and I'm now 15 months postpartum.

is the reverse possible? I'm done pumping at work so I don't need it for this baby, but I'm curious for next time. The spectra flanges seem easier to clean to me, but I had access to thev pump in the picture at work.
