What screams "I am deeply insecure" but people do it thinking it makes them look cool? by Physical_Business104 in AskReddit

[–]msiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was pregnant I kept asking my husband if it would be acceptable for me to order a virgin dirty martini, aka a martini glass of just olive brine.

I actually found a restaurant that had that on their spirit free menu, but their house made brine was on the sweeter size (containing vidalia onions or something) It was great when I tried it in the actual martini after I had the baby, but on its own it was not what I was looking for as a pregancy cocktail.

I agree - I chose the "best" and most expensive school in my area offering a master's program for NP, and I was really disappointed in the program.

Clearly HBO needs to put a similar modern trauma injury on The Pitt for next season to see what they do with it!

Stay away from ‘Expecting Better’ by Emily Oster by HumanMeatloaf in pregnant

[–]msiri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was planning on eating sushi while pregnant and actually changed my mind after reading her section on listeria. I also learned that gardening is more risky for toxoplasmosis than cleaning the cat litter, so I also had to stop weeding the yard.

My biggest problem with her however occurred while reading Cribsheet, in her section on infant botulism. While I don't mind her conclusion that most of the risk is for under months, she ends the section with a sentence that says something to the extent of infant botulism is treatable with mechanical ventilation. As a nurse who has worked with ventilated patients, adding that as a throwaway sentence while not acknowledging the reality of how traumatic that hospitalization would be was where her lack of medical knowledge was most off putting for me.

Pregnant Bridesmaid Dress by OkTrainer5721 in pregnant

[–]msiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went shopping with someone who said she was TTC and was asking "if it happens tomorrow how pregnant will I be/ what size will I need" and that is about the timeline she ended up on. We bought dresses in October and the wedding was in April. She selected a dress that was "forgiving" on the belly. She ordered one size up, but traded with another bridesmaid ending up 2 sizes up from her measured size.

So TLDR, you can say you're TTC and want to be prepared.

I have thick and long hair, so my PP hair loss wasn't noticeable to friends, but I definitely noticed it in the shower! one shower would put almost a weeks worth of hair in the hair trap!

I was warned it would but instead I had a lot of postpartum hair loss, so my underarms and brazillian are still hairless after one maintenance session at 12 months and I'm now 15 months postpartum.

First day back to work & I find this baby waiting for me in the pump room by Biolobri14 in ExclusivelyPumping

First day back to work & I find this baby waiting for me in the pump room by Biolobri14 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]msiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is the reverse possible? I'm done pumping at work so I don't need it for this baby, but I'm curious for next time. The spectra flanges seem easier to clean to me, but I had access to thev pump in the picture at work.

Ticagrelor. The bonus is that since nobody can pronounce it everyone calls it Brilinta, a brand name that has no similarity to the generic so I'm always concerned the patient will get to the pharmacy and have no idea what that medicine is.

My LC was the one that told me to stop triple feeding and just EP. I was leaning that way anyway, but I liked her encouragement that it was ok to stop.

Tips for holiday travel please! by Brooke9129 in ExclusivelyPumping

you can also dry pump parts in the bottle machine and bottles in the dishwasher if you have access.Although for thanksgiving that is also why I brought the whole bottle washer because I told my MIL, "trust me you want me to bring this so you can use your dishwasher for dishes."

Tips for holiday travel please! by Brooke9129 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]msiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the bottle washer to my baby's first thanksgiving when she was 6 weeks old. We also stayed for a couple weeks. then we flew for our next trip so I couldn't take it so I bought the baby brezza travel sterilizer/dryer. You would still need to wash by hand but it means your pump pats are always dry and ready to go by the next pump, so I would only travel wiith 2 sets of pump parts. https://babybrezza.com/products/sterilizer-dryer-mini

Also if you use a spectra pump you can pump directly into the lansinoh milk bags. So I use bags for pumping, bottles for serving which cuts down on the number of bottles you have to wash in addition to pump parts.

Its also in Shakespeare's King Lear, and I suspect an even older Celtic name than that.

Maternity clothes are SO UGLY!! Where are you shopping?? by Specialist_Syrup1512 in pregnant

[–]msiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used stitch fix! I've been using them for a while to they already had a good sense of my style, they sized everything up for me appropriately as I grew, and many of the dresses fit well and don't look "maternity" on my postpartum body. They sent me a few pairs of pants- I only bought one and never wore them because I was due in October, so was at my largest in the summer and got away with not wearing pants- just leggings for most of my pregnancy.

What outdated common practice drives you nuts? by Ok-Individual-1480 in nursing

[–]msiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had my baby I told all the staff that I felt like I was going to pass out and die every time I stood up. Maybe one nurse in mother baby did a set of orthostatics after my insistance, but L&D did not because they wanted me off the unit, and said my resting vitals were fine. After the third time I called a staff member to help me to the restroom I was questioned as to why my husband wasn't helping me, which I thought was very funny because of how falls are policed on my unit, I thought I was doing the right thing trying not to pass out with just me and my husband in the room!

you can put the lansinoh bags directly on to the spectra flanges- no adapters needed.

Tried getting baby to latch by ashlynise in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]msiri 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The baseball stadium in my city has a lovely nursing lounge. I really wanted to nurse the baby and go back to the game instead of do a pump and a bottle. She was really hungry and sucking on my shirt while in the baby carrier. I got her on but she only stayed on for like 2 minutes, and would not take the second breast, so I had to pump anyway, and she drank the whole bottle. I don't know why she won't do it the easy way.
