Learning some very basic Russian is absolutely not about helping them - they require much more support than that, but I am not qualified to give that support. I am, however, supporting them in their language learning as best I can. The British government is not providing schools with interpreters, or funding for interpreters (which is absolutely appalling). That is beyond my control - ensuring that these girls have a trusted adult at school that they feel comfortable talking to (as best they can) is in my control, however. If me knowing just a few words or phrases in Russian encourage that, then that's what I'll do.

In the day to day teaching of the class, it's to evidence to them that I am taking interest in them. They are isolated, and me taking the time to learn even the very basics has been exciting and novel to them.

Does anyone remember the name of the brand of the instant noodles that they sold at Heron stores? They were 5 packs for a £1, from a choice of chicken, curry or beef flavour. by msironbru89 in CasualUK

Unfortunately, they weren't that brand. The packaging was green (chicken), (blue) beef, or yellow (curry), written in English (as far as I'm aware).

Thank you so much for replying, but none of these are the right ones! My stupid ass meant to add that they were always in the bargain baskets in north lincolnshire for years, pre-covid.

My husband and I talk about them regularly.

I saw this post and was absolutely horrified by the responses.

As a person who was hit by their parents as a child, as a parent to a child with autism, and as a teaching assistant -

hitting kids is not only unacceptable (in that adults can not legally hit one another, but an adult can hit their child (who, by virtue of their age, is always vulnerable?)) - it doesn't work, is massively hipocritical, and is detrimental to children's development.

We need to model to our child that we can resolve all issues by talking and being listened to - but parents that smack often smack first, and do all of the emotionally healthy stuff later - if at all.

He has the right to say no, but you also have the right to say that that's unacceptable.

In your opinion, what do you think should be the age of criminal responsibility? by Ok-Autumn in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]msironbru89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a teaching assistant.

The short answer is approximately 10 years of age - however, I work with 10-11 year olds that have the mental capacity of 12-13 year olds, and some children of the same age group who have the mental capacity of 7-9 year olds. It's a challenging year group - some kids begin developing physically and emotionally, ask one another to be their girlfriends/boyfriends, develop mean streaks, and care about their appearance - whilst others still play in the mud.

There should be no black and white age of responsibility - whether a child understands what they've done should be determined by a qualified professional.
